Parish update… Wednesday 21 April 2021

Let’s talk Gardening!

Why not join our new Gardening Club?

Over the last year and months, we as parish have been considering ways in which we can reach out and serve the people of Keighley and God has most definitely pointed out that we sit on a large piece of land that is in our backyard - the church yard! As a result, we have been praying in this space, clearing this space and securing this space through fencing and lighting. God has also started to bless our efforts and a small grant was offered a day after prayers to enable us to restablish the path and to put in some flower beds. We therefore wondered if anyone was interested in joining a gardening club. The idea is that a person or a group of people take on a flower bed to care for so that no space would be too overwhelming and if the space is no longer manageable we can let it become grassed over again. We are having our first gathering in the church yard on 8 May between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Please do join us if you are free - there will be coffee and cake! If you would like to know more, would like to donate plants or have any thoughts please do con- tact Natasha (07887707221)

My dear friends, There is never an easy way to share this kind of news. No words that are not shaped by love and its cost. After 16 years as serving as parish priest at All Saints - 9 where I was also Priest-in-charge of St Barnabas - and the last 5 years as Keighley Chaplain and Team Vicar, I will be leaving Keighley in the Summer. I have been appointed Team Rector to the and Villages Team Ministry, . That’s . Where Rev Graham Potter comes from. Witham is a town midway between Chelmsford and . As Team Rector I’ll be responsible for seven parishes, primarily based at St Nicolas in Witham. It will be a huge wrench leaving Keighley for me and my family. Because we love you. And this is what I believe St Nicolas Church Witham Christ’s ministry is always grounded upon. The love that makes sense of us, hallows us, challenges and impels us. And this love calls me to these churches in Essex. But I’m not going just yet. There is plenty of time between now and my last Sunday service in Keighley at the end of July. The Archdeacon of Bradford adds: "Jonathan is to be congratulated on his appointment to this significant post of Team leadership in the Diocese of Chelmsford. Bishop Toby and I are most grateful to him for his faithful service in Keighley over the past 16 years, and part he played in the transition 5 years ago to a united parish. His work with United Keighley and in establishing support for asylum seekers have been particularly notable. Jonathan's leaving will create some significant gaps, and so we will be working with Mike, the PCC and others to consider what skills and experience we will now need to find for the future. We are therefore be praying the parish as well as for Jonathan, Anna and the family as they prepare to move to Essex." Ven Andy Jolley
