Most of this episode I really enjoyed, though I didn't understand why they rushed Edmund's acceptance of his mother's relationship with Easterbrook, which although I can't remember, is not in the book. Also, Phillippa Haymes in the book had a husband who was supposedly deceased, and I felt that was missed here. I liked the acting, especially from Elaine Page and Zoe Wannamaker, who brought their characters to life, and also the story generallymusic and production values. But Miss Marple: A Murder is Announced just isn't a patch on the wonderful Joan Hickson series, which is vastly superior to this. Most of the Geraldine McEwan outings have been very disappointing, especially the ones when she isn't in the book, like Sittaford Mystery. I liked the execution Miss Marple: A Murder is Announced the lights going out scene, though in the Joan Hickson series that scene was very scary, and it wasn't particularly here. I wasn't hugely keen on Catherine Tate as the maid, and I Miss Marple: A Murder is Announced her casting was a rather strange choice. Several villagers arrive at the house under the false pretenses of "just walking by" or "Was in the neighborhood". At exactly 7 PM, the lights go out, and a man enters the room, and shines a flashlight in everyone's face. Then shots are heard. As the lights come back on, they find the man who entered the room has been shot. Miss Marple must unmask the killer but soon more murders turn up. The premise of this story is so silly that I love it. It runs like a classic Agatha Christie whodunit. The group of individuals get an invitation to party where they are openly told a murder will occur. Their interest and intrigue and British-ishness made it laugh out loud funny for me at times. Also, Miss Marple is wonderful. I like the feel of these episodes and the acting far better than the newer shows. In fact, I highly recommend all of the older episodes of Miss Marple, besides perhaps "Nemesis". You must have a soft spot for British mystery Looking for something to watch?     THE MISS MARPLE MODEL OF PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT Carolyn Allen Zeiger ABSTRACT The Agatha Christie detective, Miss Jane Marple, is used as a model for a particular method of doing psychological assessment. The paper demonstrates how this seemingly loose, intuitive, and informal approach is supported by a formal conceptual system. The underlying structure is delineated using concepts and tools from Descriptive Psychology. The model is articulated in terms of its procedural and conceptual features, as well as personal characteristics of the person using it. My husband and I are not television watchers, but one snowy night a couple of years ago, we were stuck at home and turned on the BBC Mystery Series. Thereupon we discovered Miss Marple, Agatha Christie's octogenarian, amateur sleuth, who just happens to show up at the right places and solve murder mysteries.
