Lovely Kentucky League of Cities, Executive Director/CEO 2 HOST WELCOME Greetings, Welcome to Lexington - "The Horse Capital of the World" and home of the 2010 World Equestrian Games. On behalf of the Urban County Government and the citizens of Lexington-Fayette County, I am pleased to welcome you for the KLC annual convention. Our city is honored to have another opportunity to host this convention. The Kentucky League of Cities and each of its member cities are a vital component to the growth and development of our state. During your stay in Lexington, please enjoy our restaurants, parks, downtown activities, places to shop and most of all our beautiful landscape and the magnificent thoroughbred horses. Thank you for choosing Lexington to host this important convention, and please let us know if there are ways we can make your stay more enjoyable. We know your visit here in Lexington will be memorable and we hope you will visit again soon. Sincerely, Mayor Teresa Ann Isaac Lexington 2006 KLC CONVENTION & EXPO 3 PRESIDENT’S WELCOME As KLC president, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all delegates and guests as you arrive for the 2006 Kentucky League of Cities Convention and Expo. This year's convention theme, "Building a Brighter Future," focuses on trends, products and services that will inspire you and your city as we look to the future. As always, the convention affords you valuable training sessions and opportunities to exchange ideas and solutions with colleagues. You may notice some changes in this year's convention. The KLC staff has done a great job of incorporating your suggestions to make the convention an experience to remember. They are committed to offering excellent, topical training with experienced instructors; entertaining national speakers; and a new and improved Expo that presents more vendors offering a wider variety of products and services that cities use. One important way that Kentucky cities are building a brighter future is through your unwavering participation in the state legislative process. Together, we have continued to walk the halls of Frankfort and spread our message of "Cities United!" We are honored to again serve as host of the Interim Joint Committee on Local Government during Thursday's Legislative Luncheon. This is an exciting opportunity for us to share our legislative agenda and to show our commitment to working with our senators and representatives to achieve city-friendly legislation. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as KLC president and working on behalf of you and the entire membership. I encourage you to take advantage of all the opportunities made available to you by KLC. This year's convention is an excellent way to get involved in KLC and to become a more engaged member. I look forward to seeing you over the next few days as we concentrate on building a brighter future for our cities. I know that we will all learn something new and gain valuable direction on issues that affect us all. Please enjoy yourself during the convention and expo and, most of all, enjoy your stay in Lexington! Sincerely, Bradley H. Collins President, Kentucky League of Cities Mayor of Morehead, Kentucky 4 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/CEO WELCOME It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Lexington! On behalf of the entire KLC staff, we are excited that you have taken time out of your busy schedules to join us for the 2006 KLC Convention and Expo. My staff and I have been working very hard to ensure you have a productive and worthwhile convention experience. This year's convention theme, "Building a Brighter Future," recognizes the great strides that are being made in cities all across Kentucky as you work to make your local communities better places to live and work. Our goal is to create a convention that offers quality programming, numerous networking opportunities, and an innovative, useful Exhibit Hall. As city officials, you know the importance of quality governance and effective leadership at the local level. I hope you enjoy yourself and take away some valuable information from your stay in Lexington. Thanks to your feedback, we've made several improvements to the convention this year. We'll be kicking off convention activities with the City Achievement Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, followed by the Opening General Session. We've also brought back the wildly popular President's Banquet and Entertainment on Friday night. You will not want to miss the Pink Flamingos after the banquet. They promise to be not just a band, but an experience! We're also focusing on an expanded Exhibit Hall this year. You told us that you gain valuable contacts and information from the exhibitors each year. So, we've doubled our efforts to attract exhibitors that have an interest in city officials and municipalities. We've also expanded the number of opportunities for you to interact with the exhibitors during convention. We even added "Expo" to the convention's name! Please use this valuable time with the exhibitors to ask questions and learn about new products and services that might work in your city. And, be sure to thank the exhibitors for coming to our convention. As always, I invite you to share any thoughts or ideas that you have about the convention or any aspect of KLC with me or any member of my staff while we are together. The league is here to serve you, and I welcome any input that will help us be of better service for you and your city. Working together, we can all build a brighter future. Sincerely, Sylvia L.
