Data on New and Rare for the Lithuanian Fauna Species of Coleoptera NAUJOS IR RETOS LIETUVOS VABZDŽI Ų R ŪŠYS. 21 tomas 45 DATA ON NEW AND RARE FOR THE LITHUANIAN FAUNA SPECIES OF COLEOPTERA POVILAS IVINSKIS, ALEKSANDRAS MERŽIJEVSKIS, JOLANTA RIMŠAIT Ė Institute of Ecology of Vilnius University, Akademijos 2, LT-08412 Vilnius, Lithuania. E-mails: [email protected], [email protected] Introduction The results of research on fauna of Lithuanian Coleoptera in recent years were published in Tamutis et al . (2008), Buchynski et al . (2008), Ivinskis et al . (2008), Ivinskis & Rimšait ė (2009). The list of Lithuanian Coleoptera was supplemented by new species, but the data on distribution of new and rare species is still insufficient. The aim of this paper is to present data on some rare and new Coleoptera species from different regions of Lithuania. Material and Methods The material was collected using standard entomological methods: sweeping, pitfall traps, light traps, sugar–wine traps, hand-searching, sampling under the bark of old logs and tree stumps, leaf litter as well as in moss on trees and reared from mushroom bodies. The majority of specimens were collected by Povilas Ivinskis (P.I.) and Jolanta Rimšait ė (J.R.). Some specimens were collected by Algis Bubinas (A.B.), Giedrius Švitra (G.Š.), Algimantas Jakimavi čius (A.J.), Talvydas Špiliauskas (T.Š.), Diana Staugaitien ė (D.S.), Eugenijus Anisimovas (E.A.), Erikas Lutovinovas (E.L.), Saulius Pakalniškis (S.P.), Liutauras Raudonikis (L.R.), Sigitas Pod ėnas (S.Pod.), Laima Vilnelyt ė (L.V.), Jan Paulusch & Anne Sü β (J.P.&A.S.), Vytautas Jonaitis (V.J.), P. Jok ūbaitien ė (P.J.), I. Jusien ė (I.J.), Rasa Bernotien ė (R.B.), M. Lukoševi čius (M.L.), Suba čien ė (S.), Dalius Dapkus (D.D.), I. Petrauskien ė (I. Pet.), Vytautas Višinskas (V.V.) and Odeta Grigulevi čien ė (O. G.). The nomenclature follows Fauna Europaea database (Fauna Europaea Web Service, 2007) and families are ordered according to Fauna of Poland (2004). Keys of Freude, Harde & Lohse (1965–1989) were used for the species identification, while books of Pileckis & Monsevi čius (1995, 1997) for defining the rarity categories. The material is deposited in the collection of the Laboratory of Entomology, Institute of Ecology of Vilnius University. Species new for the Lithuanian fauna are marked with an asterisk (*). AN ENTOMOLOGICAL TOUR IN KURDISTAN BY HUGH SCOTT, M.A., SC.D. (PLATES111, IV, V.) During my recent short tenure of the position of Agricultural Entomologist to the Government of Iraq it fell to my lot to under- take a tour of inspection in the mountainous country of Kurdistan. Official journeys in various parts of Iraq would have recurred not infrequently in the course of my duties, had I continued to hold the post. As things happened, this single tour was an exception- ally intriguing experience to me, and the story of it may be of some general interest, if only to indicate the kind of problems to be grappled with. I have submitted a report on matters of eco- nomic importance to the Iraq Department of Agriculture, and my observations on subjects relating to entomology, both ' economic ' and ' uneconomic,' are here narrated in a different form, Kurdistan is a large term, and the regions inhabited by the Kurds embrace parts of Persia and Turkey as well as of Iraq. I saw only a piece, even of that section which lies within the Kingdom of Iraq. My operations were confined to the Liwa (administrative division) of Sulaimania, with its capital, the town of that name, as a base; but they led me to within a mile or two of the Persian frontier, nearly 180 miles N.N.E. of Baghdad as the crow flies, while by the route I followed the distance from Baghdad to my furthest point was more than 300 miles. The whole district is visited by comparatively few Britishers, and probably little or nothing has been written about its entomology in British journals.

Commissioned by Thames Water Utilities Limited Clearwater Court Vastern Road Reading RG1 8DB CROSSNESS SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS NATURE RESERVE & SOUTHERN MARSH AQUATIC INVERTEBRATE SURVEY Report number: CPA18054 JULY 2019 Prepared by Colin Plant Associates (UK) Consultant Entomologists 30a Alexandra Rd London N8 0PP 1 1 INTRODUCTION, BACKGROUND AND METHODOLOGY 1.1 Introduction and background 1.1.1 On 30th May 2018 Colin Plant Associates (UK) were commissioned by Biodiversity Team Manager, Karen Sutton on behalf of Thames Water Utilities Ltd. to undertake aquatic invertebrate sampling at Crossness Sewage Treatment Works on Erith Marshes, Kent. This survey was to mirror the locations and methodology of a previous survey undertaken during autumn 2016 and spring 2017. Colin Plant Associates also undertook the aquatic invertebrate sampling of this previous survey. 1.1.2 The 2016-17 aquatic survey was commissioned with the primary objective of establishing a baseline aquatic invertebrate species inventory and to determine the quality of the aquatic habitats present across both the Nature Reserve and Southern Marsh areas of the Crossness Sewage Treatment Works. The surveyors were asked to sample at twenty-four, pre-selected sample station locations, twelve in each area. Aquatic Coleoptera and Heteroptera (beetles and true bugs) were selected as target groups. A report of the previous survey was submitted in Sept 2017 (Plant 2017). 1.1.3 During December 2017 a large-scale pollution event took place and untreated sewage escaped into a section of the Crossness Nature Reserve. The primary point of egress was Nature Reserve Sample Station 1 (NR1) though because of the connectivity of much of the waterbody network on the marsh other areas were affected.
