Moving towards 2025, the economic region’s prime geographic location, strong institutional backing and long-term development planning are contributing to a growing sense of optimism about its long-term prospects. A CATALYST FOR STRONG AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH of the world’s busiest shipping routes, its proximity to the nearby international hub of Singapore and other large markets such as Indonesia, China and India, as well as its rich endowment of natural and human resources, have all underpinned southern Johor’s past successes and underscore its future potential. It is with this context in mind that, fol- lowing the proposal under the Malaysian Government’s Ninth Malaysia Plan 2006-2010 to develop five regional economic corridors to catalyse national growth, the South Johor Economic Region was earmarked as the southern development corridor.

The significance of it is undeniable because it has become one of the necessities of human life. Studies have shown that housing adequacy is connected with the Quality of Life because everything starts at home. The preceding housing problems will reflect on the policy problems of local authorities and management. Some of the previous aftermaths on housing might affect the balance and sustainability of residents. A lot of issues about housing have been drawn to the media especially in Malaysia. Water supply crisis, flood issue, a technical issue like elevator problem, waste management, security, lack of facilities such as public transport are some of the examples. It is also affecting the satisfaction towards housing quality indirectly. This study investigates the satisfaction on housing quality in Mukim Bandar Johor Bahru and Mukim Plentong, Johor Bahru, Johor which cover a total of 696,500 people. A sample of 196 respondents is surveyed to identify the locals' satisfaction with their housing quality in three aspects which are the physical of house, infrastructure, and the environment by using Cochran’s formula. Descriptive analysis is used to analyse the quantitative data obtained.

The uniqueness of porous asphalt surface textures and internal structures allows the mixture to become a temporary storm-water retention and capable to channel excessive storm water. However, one of the major problems that affect the performance of porous asphalt mixtures is the clogging. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of clogging towards the permeability of porous asphalt. A total of 30 gyratory compacted samples were fabricated according to aggregate gradation recommended by Malaysia Public Works Department. The clogging materials were collected from two different location, residential area and major highway. The composition and characteristics of the clogging materials were investigated using Plastic Limit, Liquid Limit and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The permeability test was conducted to investigate the permeability rate of the compacted samples based on different clogging material types, clogging concentrations and clogging cycles. In addition, the compacted samples were scanned using X-ray Computed Tomography to obtain the air voids distribution throughout the samples for comparison. It was found that higher concentration of clogging materials and clogging cycles reduced the rate of permeability.

    State-Owned Enterprise (SOE): The Role of SOE Entrepreneurship in Nation-Building Efforts, 1970-2014 Fary Akmal Osman Since the early twentieth century, the study of entrepreneurship has been inspired by the Schumpeterian concept of entrepreneurship as innovator as well as an agent of change in the economy. Many emerging economies, particularly in Asia, established state-owned enterprises (SOE) as a national development strategy. Today, many SOEs operate using a variety of approaches and play active roles, including as cross-border investors. There are several SOEs in Malaysia at the federal and local government levels. This paper analyses the reasons for these SOE’s outstanding performance, focusing on the relationship between SOEs and entrepreneurship, the role of SOEs in cultivating local entrepreneurs, the characteristics embedded in Johor Corporation (JCorp) and how entrepreneurship changed over time. As a state enterprise in Malaysia, JCorp adopted a unique business position and investment strategy to become a major global player in its core enterprises. This study reveals that JCorp acting as an SOE entrepreneur successfully built an organisation with more than 250 local companies in various business sectors and services incorporated under a single umbrella. There are 379 directors within the group and a total workforce of about 63,000 people. Tremendous efforts were made by the SOE to educate Malay entrepreneurs and professionals through the enhancement of knowledge and skills, networking, sharing of experience, and management expertise.     MEDIA STATEMENT Kuala Lumpur, 17 January 2013 NINTH KHAZANAH ANNUAL REVIEW (“KAR 2013”) Khazanah’s portfolio value jumps 24% in 2012 to a record high Portfolio value posts record RM86.9bn Net Worth Adjusted, driven by IPOs Successful delivery of strategic and catalytic projects especially in Iskandar Malaysia • Record portfolio financial performance: o Portfolio scaled new record highs with Realisable Asset Value (“RAV”) at RM121.6 billion and Net Worth Adjusted (“NWA”) posting RM86.9 billion, as at 31st December 2012. o Growth in NWA year on year of 24.3% outstrips KLCI total return of 14.1%, driven by major IPOs. o Unaudited results of Profit Before Tax (“PBT”) of RM2.1 billion, with dividend RM1.0 billion declared. o Key prudential ratios and balance sheet indicators strengthened further. • Successful execution of strategic projects coupled with key defining transactions and developments to further catalyse growth and create value: o Particularly strong delivery in Iskandar Malaysia, as scheduled, for the 2012 “banner year”. In other catalytic projects, three theme parks successfully opened in 2012. o Defining transactions include IHH and Astro IPOs; completion of major transactions – delisting of PLUS, divestment of Proton, reversal of MAS-Air Asia share swap and UEM Group’s successful USD5.7 billion Turkish highway bid. o GLC Transformation Programme continues its solid progress; over the eight and half years since it started, G-201 and K-72 recorded Total Shareholders’ Return (“TSR”) of 14.2% and 14.4% per annum respectively, outperforming KLCI’s 13.6% per annum.
