U.S. CALVARY Calvary camp site photo courtesy of Berniece Schumacher In the fall of 1938, the Army Calvary traveled through and camped overnight near Readlyn. Berniece Schumacher, who was a freshman in high school at the time, recalls that tents were pitched in the northwest part of town in the vicinity of what is now known as Malone Avenue. The Calvary was welcomed with open arms, and many people came to attend the band concert performed by the Calvary on Main Street that evening. It was a great cause for celebration. The supply ofbeer in the taverns became exhausted, but was replenished by someone making a trip to Waterloo for more.· POLITICS Fred H.
