For detailed segmentation, please see pages 59-68. Each category is forecast in three scenarios: core, low and high, as the market is still young and has an elevated level of uncertainty. – The core scenario describes the most likely outcome across all categories, given our current understanding. – A change in one category can trigger changes in other categories. The summary presents the core scenario for all four categories. – Low and high scenarios for the different categories cannot be added, as significant cannibalization could happen between segments — a high scenario for one is likely to mean a shift toward the low scenario of another. We have developed a split by device form in the core scenario. – This is a top-down split and subject to a significant uncertainty owing to the very early days of the market; one hugely successful product can greatly change the outlook. The sell-in value forecast is developed at a constant exchange rate of pounds to dollars from April 2016 onward. Market Forecast: Wearables, UK, 2016-2020 © CCS Insight 4 Key Messages The segmentation of wearable devices, largely unchanged since 2015, can be found on pages 59-68.

Pebble (watch) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Pebble Smartwatch, often known now as the Pebble Classic, is an American smartwatch developed by Pebble Pebble Smartwatch Technology Corporation,[17] and is the first generation of the Pebble watch lineup. The smartwatch was pledged from a Kickstarter campaign, proving massively successful, collecting around $10 million for development of the smartwatch. Pebble connects to both Android and iOS phones, so they can display notifications from the phone, control music, view calendar events, and create reminders.[18][19] An online app store makes the Pebble compatible with apps tailored for them from many third party sellers, for many purposes especially sports. The Pebble is distinct from competing watches like the Apple Watch due to its fully functional, always-on e-paper displays that allow them to have full waterproofing and having a 7- to 10-day battery life, depending on the version.[20] E-paper inhibits the displaying of pictures, but it gives Pebble's watches better battery life and lower cost than competing Android Wear smartwatches and the Apple Watch.[21] The Pebble Classic features a monochrome, battery-efficient liquid-crystal display, a programmable CPU, memory, storage, Bluetooth connectivity, a vibrating motor, a magnetometer, an ambient light sensor and accelerometer; with the hardware Also known as Pebble extending its use into many roles including interacting with smartphone notifications, activity tracking, gaming, map display, controlling music and connected devices, setting timers, alarms, and reminders, viewing calendar events, and run and golf Developer Pebble Technology, Corp., Pebble Devices, tracking.[9][22] Corp in California.[1] When connected to an Android or iOS smartphone via Bluetooth, it will vibrate and display text messages, emails, incoming Manufacturer Foxlink Group in calls, and notifications from social media accounts when they are received on the paired device.

Fast forward a few years and the company has sold over a million smartwatches and broken Kickstarter campaign records to launch their latest offering, Pebble Time. Marin Tchakarov talks about how critical cus- tomer experience is to Pebble’s success and how the company uses it to disrupt its industry. 2 “Disruption is that innate desire to explore and make the world a better place one little bit at a time.” – Marin Tchakarov How important is customer experience to your business? We’re putting the customer at the very center of the experience. We don’t want our customer to be confused and annoyed by choices that they have to make, like “Geez, does this work with my iPhone, does this work with my Android?” It works with all of them. We wanted to make an awesome experience for all, irrespective of what you currently have as an operating system on your devices. Smartwatches are what we do. It’s the only thing we do. We want the best wearable experience for you as a customer. We’ve been very focused and thoughtful about what wearables should be, what a smartwatch as a wearable should be, and when you would want to interact with a smartwatch.

Iiro Rassi Test Platform Prioritization for Smartwatch Game Development: Case Everywear Games Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Master’s Degree Information Technology Master’s Thesis 11 May 2016 Abstract Author(s) Iiro Rassi Title Test Platform Prioritization for Smartwatch Game Development: Case Everywear Games Number of Pages 45 pages + 1 appendix Date 11 May 2016 Degree Master of Engineering Degree Programme Information Technology Instructor(s) Mika Tammenkoski, Chief Technology Officer Teemu Saukonoja, M.Sc. Testing in game development does not follow the same priorities and processes as in common software development. Game testing places a larger emphasis on usability aspects such as the fun-factor of the gameplay. Due to the different quality criteria, the approach to test planning is different as well. This thesis explores the possibility of prioritizing the testing platform based on the testing task at hand in order to improve the efficiency and reduce the resource costs of the test execution. Testing platforms in this context refer mainly to the simulator provided by the application development software and a real device. The client of the thesis, Everywear Games, develops games for the Apple Watch smartwatch. As a growing company they were interested in building up their processes in the most efficient way. The primary goal of the thesis was to formulate a set of principles for conducting test platform prioritization in a smartwatch game development project. This goal was fulfilled by the contents of the thesis. There were many discrepancies found between the operation of the simulator and the device, which were categorized as performance, physical and functional differences.
