Baldwin Piano PHILIPPE BIANCONI

Philippe Bianconi, as the Silver Medal Winner of the Seventh Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, is not only entitled to a substantial cash prize but to a Carnegie Hall debut recital and a string of public concerts spread out over the next 2½ years. He was born in Nice, on the Azure Coast of , in 1960 and attended the National Conservatory in that city for his first instruction in music. Subsequently he studied in , where his teachers were Gabriel Tacchino and Gaby Casadesus. A colleague in one of his recent audiences chose a key word for Blanconi 's way with music: elegance. The grace of his fingers has been compared to "that of the legs of Fred Astaire, producing music of sparkling clarity (Mozart) aristocratic romanticism (Liszt) and rhapsodic atmosphere (Ravel)." He is a tall man with a slenderness that contributes to this air of elegance, and gives the feeling that he is at ease with contrasting styles from several different cultures. Philippe Bianconl made his orchestral debut with the Nice Philharmonic at the age of fifteen, also appearing with orchestras in Monte Carlo, Lille, Cleveland and other cities in the United States. He has performed recitals in such far-flung locations as Paris, Vienna, Milan the Netherlands and in many cities in this country. Despite his youth, he is praised for his confidence in many styles, his ability to achieve favorable technical results that puts his audiences at ease, and a natural eloquence that few of any nationality can equal. Bianconi's personal interests include opera, movies and the theater. He now makes his home in Paris.
