2010 BASEBALL | 5 2010 SEASON PREVIEW

There is high optimism surrounding the second sea- son of the Davenport University baseball program af- ter an inaugural 32-23 campaign in 2009. Head Coach Wes Cummings and his staff welcome back all nine starters from a year ago and surrounded a team that started the program’s history with many fresh faces from the junior college to high school ranks. The 2010 Panthers will be looking to take the next step in build- ing not only a successful WHAC program but an NAIA one as well.

Also serving as one of four team captains is catcher Jake Loomans (Grandville, Mich.) who batted .311 last season and was named to the Honorable Mention All-WHAC squad. The DU bench will also be solid on the infield as senior Mitch Pike (Rockford, Mich.) and junior Dan Brown (Bay City, Mich.) will provide much needed depth. The outfield will also be a strength in 2010 after seeing many different faces last season due to injuries.
