Jim’s five TML Championships ties him with Mike Dickinson and Bryan Sakolsky. It was once again a battle of the league’s strongest pitching staff against one of the top offensive teams in Arkansas. The Browns had previously edged past the “Hitless Wonders” of Coachella Valley in 7 games! The clincher was one of the most dramatic and nail-biting games in TML History, as Sandy Koufax was nearly perfect through 10 innings, fanning 18 and walking none. The only hit was a 3rd inning single by the opposing pitcher Jim Bunning! Arkansas had advanced to their 2nd straight TML World Series by sweeping Perth. Co-Playoff MVPs (for the 2nd straight season) Sandy Koufax (3-2, 1.67, 54K/43IP) and Sam McDowell (2-1, 1.57, 27K/23IP) were again outstanding and nearly unhittable! We ask again: can the Browns’ Dynasty be toppled in 1964? “The Royals of Sir Cedric” by Steve Treder of The Hardball Times December 21, 2004 At its inception, the most successful expansion franchise in pre-free agency baseball history didn’t impress many observers. The Kansas City Royals devoted most of their expansion draft picks to unproven young players, in distinct contrast to the approach taken by their companion A.L. expansion team, the Seattle Pilots. Take a look at the first ten choices of each club, noting each player’s age and major league experience as of the October 15, 1968 draft: Royals: Player Age ML Seasons ML Experience 1. Restless Minoso Is Hopeful Final Wish Will Be Granted By Paul Ladewski Normally, it doesn't take much to get a word out of Minnie Minoso, the former White Sox great. He hasn't been himself lately, though. He has tossed and turned for weeks. He admits to a few cowboy movies in the wee hours. On the way to U.S. Cellular field on Thursday, when a public forum was held to raise awareness for his Hall of Fame bid, not even his wife Sharon could get a peep out of him. “I said, 'Hey, Superstar, are you ready for this?'” she said. “He didn't have much to say.
