Vision: ‘A reputable regulatory body that ensures the safety and the quality of care for the population of Uganda’. Mission: ‘UMDPC strives to set and enforce standards of medical and dental training and practice in Uganda, so as to promote safe and quality health care and protect the public from malpractice’. Values The core values that UMDPC will espouse in the quest to implement its mandate and perform its functions are: Integrity Compassion Fairness Respect and Accountability The underpinning principles are: Professionalism Equity Equality Quality Competence 1 Functions of the Council: Part II, Section 3 of the UMDPC Act 1996 provides for the functions of the Council which includes; The functions of the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council are to; (a) Monitor and exercise general supervision and control over and maintenance of professional medical and dental educational standards, including continuing education (b) Promote the maintenance and enforcement of professional medical and dental ethics (c) Exercise general supervision of medical and dental practice at all levels (d) Exercise disciplinary control over medical and dental practitioners (e) Protect society from abuse of medical and dental care and research on human beings (f) Advise and make recommendations to the Government on matters relating to the medical and dental professions (g) Exercise any power and perform any duty authorized or required by this Act or any other law (h) Disseminate to the medical and dental practitioners and public, ethics relating to doctor-patient rights and obligations (i) Perform any other function r act relating to medical or dental practice as the minister may direct, for the purposes of discharging its functions under this Act.
