First Points for the Citroën Junior Team Rally Ireland (29 January - 1 February 2009) – Day 3 First points for the Citroën Junior Team With two cars placed in the top six of the Rally Ireland, the Citroen Junior Team has made a successful debut on the World Rally Championship. On their first rally with a Citroen C4 WRC, Chris Atkinson and Stephane Prevot have finished fifth. Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia were right behind them in sixth. Conrad Rautenbach and Daniel Barritt score a point for the manufacturers championship. For the first time since the start of the Rally Ireland, the sun made an appearance over Sligo. The roads were damp in the morning, but progressively dried out over the course of the day. Continuing a tried and tested solution from Friday, the three Citroen Junior Team crews carried on using Pirelli’s Sottozero snow tyres. On the first loop of three stages close to Sligo, Chris Atkinson managed to overhaul Henning Solberg to claim fourth place. « We’ve achieved our objective, but the conditions are still really marginal, » he said. « Even through there’s no standing water, the roads are still damp and there are a lot of traps to get sucked into. » During the second loop of stages, Atkinson continued to use the Pirelli Sottozero snow tyres while his rival chose Pirelli’s PZero asphalt tyres. The duel came to an end on Donegal Bay (SS18). « I braked too late, » admitted the Australian. « Consequently we lost a minute. Fourth place would have been a good result but I’m not going to be disappointed by a top five placing on such a difficult event. I was still learning the Citroen C4 WRC on this rally. The car was quick and reliable, and the Citroen Junior Team helped me to make a lot of progress with it. I hope to drive the car again very soon ! » Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia started the day sixth but experienced intercom difficulties in the first loop of stages. Even though he was already suffering with the flu, Julien had to make an extra big effort to read out the notes ! « The stages were really dirty, » said Sebastien. « Up to now, the rain had been cleaning the roads. Today, the mud that was dragged onto the road by other competitors was just staying on the line. This made it really important to be careful and not get caught out. » On only his second rally with the Citroen C4 WRC, the Equipe de France FFSA driver put in an excellent performance to finish sixth. Having accumulated as much experience as possible, the reigning Junior World Rally Champion was happy with his result. « We learnt so much over the 350 competitive kilometres, » he said. « We discovered a completely new environment, a brand new rally, and coped with horrendous conditions running behind the top drivers. Every rally we finish is a mine of information for us. It’s a huge satisfaction for us to get to the finish and score some points. » Having re-started the rally this morning, Conrad Rautenbach took some time to get back into the swing of things. « I didn’t have a very good feeling, » he reported. « Maybe that was as a result of going off yesterday. I just concentrated on my driving in order to try not to make any mistakes. We’re going to work with the team now to make the car a little more comfortable for me and give me a bit more confidence. » At the end of the rally, Conrad scores a point for the Citroen Junior Team. « We worked well with the team to adapt the car to my driving style. On Friday we got off to a good start with the right tyre choice and some encouraging times. It’s a good omen for the rest of the season. » With all three Citroen C4 WRCs at the rally finish, Benoit Nogier can draw a very positive conclusion for the Citroen Junior Team. « The global result is remarkable, » he pointed out. « We didn’t have the slightest technical problem, which underlines the excellent reliability of the C4 WRC. Chris’s fifth position is an excellent result, and we hope that he will be back with the Citroen Junior Team soon as he has shown that he can mix it with the best drivers in the world. Sebastien and Conrad learnt a lot and made plenty of progress over the weekend. Over the course of the three days, Sebastien set some very promising times given the conditions. For a driver who is still learning the car, it was an excellent performance. » The rally by numbers Chris Atkinson Conrad Rautenbach Sébastien Ogier Stéphane Prévot Daniel Barritt Julien Ingrassia Stage Overall Stage Overall Stage Overall SS15 : Geevah (11,48 km) 5e +16’’7 4e +6’17’’8 10 e +36’’0 20 e +34’39’’6 9e +34’’1 6e +9’46’’5 SS16 : Arigna (10,88 km) 4e +10’’7 4e +6’28’’5 13 e +33’’6 20 e +35’13’’2 8e +19’’9 6e +10’06’’4 SS17 : Lough Gill (13,51 km) 4e +16’’9 4e +6’41’’5 17 e +54’’9 20 e +36’04’’2 7e +25’’0 6e +10’27’’5 SS18 : Donegal Bay (14,47 km) 17 e +1’24’’5 5e +7’51’’6 11 e +44’’6 18 e +36’34’’4 6e +31’’8 6e +10’44’’9 SS19 : Donegal Town (1,50 km) 8e +4’’2 5e +7’51’’9 13 e +7’’4 18 e +36’37’’9 4e +3’’0 6e +10’44’’0 Fastest stage times Day 1 : SS1 : Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Focus) – SS2 to 6 : Sébastien Loeb (Citroën C4) – SS7 and 8 : cancelled. • Mission Accomplished for Sordo and Marti
Acropolis Rally of Greece (11-14 June, 2009) – Day 3 Mission accomplished for Sordo and Marti After restarting under the SupeRally ruling for the third and final day of the 2009 Acropolis Rally of Greece, Dani Sordo and Marc Marti achieved their aims by scoring four points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ world championship. Day 3 of the Acropolis Rally was held near the service park in Loutraki. The day began with a loop comprising three stages, including a run through Aghii Theodori, a daunting 33 km stage. After restarting in 17th position in the overall standings, the only goal for Dani Sordo and Marc Marti was to finish in order to score a handful of points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ championship. Arriving in Loutraki for the midday service, Dani Sordo was fully focused on the job in hand: “It’s never easy to run at a controlled pace but I’m taking no risks. I’m staying in the middle of the road – at times, it feels like we’re doing a recce!” Following the cancellation of a stage, the rally concluded with a second run through Aghii Theodori. Running at the same pace, Dani finished in 12 th position, which is worth four points in the Manufacturers’ standings. “Dani and Marc did a perfect job,” concluded Citroën Total World Rally Team team manager Sven Smeets. “These points are even more important because our rivals once again took a maximum score. We’re already looking ahead to the next rally. We’ll be going to Rally Poland even hungrier for a win!” RALLY FACTS Dani Sordo / Marc Marti Stage Overall SS13 : Loutraki 1 (8,98 km) 3rd +1’’5 16 th +19’33’’0 SS14 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 5th +10’’0 14 th +19’21’’1 SS15 : New Pissia (11,30 km) 2nd +0’’2 14 th +19’10’’7 SS16 : Loutraki 2 (8,98 km) SS CANCELLED SS17 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 2nd +5’’3 12 th +18’41’’0 Stage wins Day 1 – SS1 : Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Focus) – SS2 : Dani Sordo (Citroën C4) – SS3 : annulée – SS4 : Evgeny Novikov (Citroën C4) – SS5 : Sébastien Ogier (Citroën C4) – SS6 : Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Focus).

  • Four Aces in the Pack for the Citroën Junior Team
Rally of Great Britain (22-25 October 2009) – Preview Four aces in the pack for the Citroën Junior Team For the first time the Citroën Junior Team will enter four Citroën C4 WRCs on the Rally Great Britain: the final round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship. The regular Citroën Junior Team crews of Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia and Conrad Rautenbach/Daniel Barritt will be joined on this occasion by Petter Solberg/Phil Mills and Aaron Burkart/Michael Kölbach. Three weeks after a first-rate performance on the rapid asphalt of Catalunya, the Citroën Junior Team will field four C4 WRCs on the all-gravel Rally Great Britain. Petter Solberg, who was fourth in Spain on his debut with the C4 WRC, joins the Citroën Junior Team and is nominated to score points in the manufacturers’ championship. The 2003 World Rally Champion has triumphed in Wales four times, and he starts this year’s event with high hopes. “The Citroën Junior Team has given me a great chance to show what I can do with a competitive car,” he said. “My goal is obviously to be fighting at the front. I’ve already been extremely impressed with the performance of the C4 WRC and I hope to be able to seize every opportunity that comes my way on these stages that I really love.” Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia, who currently lie eighth in the World Rally Championship, are returning to the event where they made their debut at the wheel of the C4 WRC in 2008. One year ago, the duo hit the headlines by sensationally grabbing the rally lead on the opening stages.
