Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington was established in 1980 by a handful of Jain families. These visionaries were passionate about making sure that Jainism and its principles and practices remain central in their lives, and the lives of their children. The Sangh in 1989 sowed the seeds of Jainism, by purchasing a house and converting it to a small Jain Center with Dehrasar. Over the past three decades these seeds have blossomed into a strong and leading Jain community with a membership of over 650 families. Our Jain Pathshala, laying the foundation for future generations, has grown to over 150 children. In the spirit of unity, the small Jain center has truly been a center of all Jain sects, providing a home for activities of learning through Pravachan, Swadhyay and practicing rituals such as Pooja, Aarti, and Jaap etc. With the large increase in the number of Jain families and Dharmic activities throughout the year, we have outgrown our current facility. We had to move Pathshala to a nearby public school to rent sufficient classrooms. Our Sangh’s major events such as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak and Paryushan activities also require renting various other facilities.

INDIAN TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE - Investment Opportunities & Challenges 3 4 INDIAN TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE - Investment Opportunities & Challenges FOREWORD Travel and tourism, the largest service industry in India was worth US$234bn in 2018 – a 19% year- on-year increase – the third largest foreign exchange earner for India with a 17.9% growth in Foreign Exchange Earnings (in Rupee Terms) in March 2018 over March 2017. According to The World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism generated ₹16.91 lakh crore (US$240 billion) or 9.2% of India’s GDP in 2018 and supported 42.673 million jobs, 8.1% of its total employment. The sector is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 6.9% to ₹32.05 lakh crore (US$460 billion) by 2028 (9.9% of GDP). The Ministry has been actively working towards the development of quality tourism infrastructure at various tourist destinations and circuits in the States / Union Territories by sanctioning expenditure budgets across schemes like SWADESH DARSHAN and PRASHAD. The Ministry of Tourism has been actively promoting India as a 365 days tourist destination with the introduction of niche tourism products in the country like Cruise, Adventure, Medical, Wellness, Golf, Polo, MICE Tourism, Eco-tourism, Film Tourism, Sustainable Tourism, etc. to overcome ‘seasonality’ challenge in tourism. I am pleased to present the FICCI Knowledge Report “Indian Tourism Infrastructure : Investment Opportunities & Challenges” which highlights the current scenario, key facts and figures pertaining to the tourism sector in India.

Dev Devies came about seventh century in the era of Sri Yasovijay Maharaj Saheb. He was the big sadhak of Sri Saraswati Devi. MUDDAHANUME GOWDA: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government proposes to declare new tourism circuits in the country to attract foreign tourists; (b) if so, the details and the locations thereof, State/UT-wise including Maharashtra; (c) whether the Government proposes to develop a tourist circuit in Shirdi, Ellora, Ajanta, Lonar and Shegaon; (d) if so, the details thereof; and (e) if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR TOURISM (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) (SHRI K. J. ALPHONS) (a) to (e): For integrated development of Theme-Based Tourist Circuits in the country, Ministry of Tourism has launched Swadesh Darshan Scheme in 2014-15. Under the Scheme, 15 thematic circuits have been identified for development namely North-East Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Desert Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Rural Circuit, Heritage Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Ramayana Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Tirthankar Circuit and Sufi Circuit. All sites/destinations in the country including Maharashtra falling under the respective thematic circuit are covered under Swadesh Darshan Scheme. The State/UT-wise details of projects sanctioned under the scheme including Maharashtra are annexed. The projects under the scheme are identified for development in consultation with the State Government/UT and are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable Detailed Project Reports, adherence to scheme guidelines and utilization of funds released earlier. Based on the above criteria, the Ministry has sanctioned the project ‘Development of Sindhudurg Coastal Circuit in Maharashtra under Swadesh Darshan Scheme’ in 2015-16 for Rs.82.17 crore.

However, the Ministry of Tourism has taken several initiatives to boost tourism including Eco-Tourism and Heritage Tourism in the country. The ‘Adopt A Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan’, initiative is a collaborative effort by Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), State / UTs Governments, for promotion of Heritage Tourism which envisages developing heritage sites and making them tourist friendly, to enhance tourism potential and cultural importance in a planned and phased manner.
