  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo Monday, February 16, 2004 Theater Etiquette and Experiences
A Performing Arts Series For Children PRESENTED BY THE MADISON CIVIC CENTER Ladysmith Black Mambazo Monday, February 16, 2004 Theater Etiquette and Experiences We have a wonderful opportunity at this performance to help youth learn about attending live performances. Sometimes young people do not realize how a live performance differs from watching a movie or television show. Please discuss the following with your students: 1. A live presentation has not been pre-recorded with the mistakes edited out. This makes it riskier for the performer and more exciting for the audience. It also means the audience contributes to the overall event. Each audience member affects those around him/her as well as the performer. The audience gives energy to the performer who uses that energy to give life to the performance. 2. An usher will show you where to sit. Walk slowly and talk quietly as you enter the theater. 3. If necessary, use the restroom before the performance begins. 4. Once you are seated, you may talk quietly to the people next to you until the performance begins. 5. When the lights dim, it is the signal that the performance is about to start. Stop talking and turn your attention to the stage. 6. Stay in your seat throughout the entire performance. 7. During the performance, listen quietly and watch closely. Talking during the performance will distract others around you, and the performers may think you’re not interested in the show. 8. LAUGHING IS APPROPRIATE. (Teachers, please do not hush the students while they are laughing.) If something is funny, it’s good to laugh.

  • Existing Persberg Dam Wall Phase 1 Heritage Impact
EXISTING PERSBERG DAM WALL, PERSBERG FARM (PORTION LINDE NO 4733) SITUATED NEAR HELPMEKAAR, MSINGA LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, UMZINYATHI DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, KWAZULU- NATAL Phase 1 Heritage Impact Assessment 15 August 2019 FOR: Afzelia Environmental Consultants Deshni Naicker AUTHOR: JLB Consulting Jean Beater EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Applicant commenced with listed activities within a watercourse on Persberg Farm in August 2015 without the required authorisation. The dam wall has been raised to a height of 8.5 m and the dam covers an area of 8.4 hectares and is estimated to hold a capacity of 152 000 m³ (cubic meters) of water when full. As a result of a non-compliance with Section 25 of NEMA, a rectification process was commenced that included a Basic Assessment process in terms of the EIA Regulations, 2014 (as amended on 7 April 2017). This Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) report forms part of the Basic Assessment process. Interim comment received from the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute, the provincial heritage authority, stated that the development footprint falls within the red zone of the palaeontology sensitivity zone (very high fossil sensitivity) meaning that a palaeontologist must complete a survey of the development area. Furthermore, the area where the proposed development footprint is located used to have old structures situated close by and the area may therefore contain heritage artefacts or graves hence a heritage impact assessment (HIA) is required. This Phase 1 HIA report is in response to this requirement. The dam is situated within a watercourse on Persberg Farm (Portions Linde No 4733) that falls in the Msinga Local Municipality that falls within the Umzinyathi District Municipality, KwaZulu- Natal.

ADDRESS BY MS NOMVULA MOKONYANE, MINISTER OF WATER AND SANITATION DURING THE LAUNCH OF THE JOZINI REGIONAL WATER PROJECT IN UMKHANYAKUDE DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, KWAZULU NATAL 19 AUGUST 2017 SPEAKING NOTES: INTRODUCTION KwaZulu-Natal, like many parts of the country, has in the recent past experienced serious drought conditions. Water scarcity in the province has forced the department to develop multi-stakeholder- partnerships (that include the Water Sector Support (KZN), the Water Regulation & Use (KZN), Umkhanyakude District Municipality and Mhlathuze Water Board) to effectively mitigate the challenge. The UMkhanyakude District Municipality is responsible for providing water and sanitation services in all Local Municipalities within its jurisdiction, i.e. UMhlabuyalingana, Jozini, The Big Five False Bay, Hlabisa and Mtubatuba. Based on the demand for water within the District to meet the requirement for potable water supply to rural backlog areas, generally, there was a dire need 1 for a new potable bulk water supply scheme with a source to the UMkhanyakude District Municipality. The point cannot be emphasize enough that the water sector is critical for government’s transformation and development objectives. Providing safe and accessible water supply and sanitation services profoundly affects poor people’s daily lives. Water is life and has a catalytic cross-cutting impact on socio-economic development as well as on peace and stability. Sanitation is dignity. Water is enshrined as a basic human right in our Constitution and specifically in two sections of the Bill of Rights: o Everyone enjoys the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; o Every citizen of South Africa enjoys the right of access to sufficient food and water.
