I capilista del Pd sono Giuliano Pisapia, Carlo Calenda, Simona Bonafé, Franco Roberti e Caterina Chinnici. Nel programma dem alle elezioni europee si parla di cultura nei capitoli dedicati a istruzione e sicurezza. Nello specifico, il Pd rilancia l’idea di una Carta europea dello studente: “Entro il 2021 - si legge nel programma - attuare la nostra proposta di una E-Card dello studente per accedere in tutta Europa a facilitazioni, prestazioni e servizi (alloggi, musei, teatri, librerie e altri servizi culturali)”. Per il Pd, inoltre, la cultura è un’alleata per “garantire la sicurezza” e “la piena integrazione sociale di tutti i cittadini, a cominciare dai giovani”: la proposta che i dem rilanciano (ne parlava già Matteo Renzi quando era premier) è di “investire 1 euro in cultura per ogni euro speso in sicurezza”. LE BATTAGLIE TARGATE PD IN EUROPA Europa Creativa, importazione di beni culturali, Anno europeo del patrimonio culturale: molte le battaglie che negli ultimi anni hanno visto proprio il Partito democratico scendere in campo per una nuova politica culturale europea. L’Anno europeo per il patrimonio culturale (2018) è stato un successo europeo e italiano. L’eurodeputata Silvia Costa si è infatti battuta fin dal 2014, come presidente della commissione Cultura del Parlamento europeo, affinché venisse dedicato un anno tematico al patrimonio culturale (l’unico organizzato dalla Commissione Juncker).

    Hon. Mr President of the European Parliament, Dear David Sassoli, Since March, when the outbreak of COVID-19 intensified in Europe, the functioning of the European Parliament (EP) has changed dramatically, due to the sanitary measures applied. We understand the inevitability of the contingency plan, taking into account the need to prevent infection and the spread of the virus and to protect the health and lives of people. Six months later, the functioning of the EP is gradually returning to normal. However, there are services whose unavailability seriously impairs parliamentary work, namely the interpretation service. The European Union (EU) has 24 official languages and all deserve the same respect and treatment. We recognize that the number of languages available in committee meeting rooms has been increasing, but even so, more than half of the languages still have no interpretation. Multilingualism is a right enshrined in the Treaties that allows Members to express themselves in their own language. Now, that is not happening and we are concerned that the situation will continue, even taking into account the expected workflow in the commissions after these atypical six months. In this sense, we appeal, once again, to you, the President of the EP for the application of the letter and the spirit of the principle of multilingualism, finding solutions that respect this principle and that allow the use of any of the 24 official languages of the EU. The expression of each deputy in her/his own language is a priority so that there can be conditions to fully exercise the mandate for which she/he was elected and a condition of respect for the citizens who elected her/him.

Mr Samir, a researcher into the history of family planning in Egypt and an advocate of safe and legal access to healthcare and women’s reproductive rights, has been charged by the Supreme State Security Prosecution with joining and funding a terrorist organisation and deliberately spreading false news. Mr Samir is currently being held in solitary confinement and is being denied contact with his family and lawyers, access to warm clothing and acceptable living conditions. He has testified to being a victim of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment by national security forces. His case is reminiscent of those of Patrick George Zaki, Walid al-Shobaki and Giulio Regeni. 1. Is the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy aware of this latest worrying case? 2.     Brussels, 14 April 2020 Dear Ms Elżbieta Witek, Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Dear Members of the Polish Parliament, Dear Colleagues, As Members of the European Parliament, we are writing to express our deep concern regarding the Parliamentary Document no 39 on amending the act of June 6, 1997 - the Penal Code - known as the “Stop paedophilia” bill - and Parliamentary Document No 36 on the amendment to the Act of 7 January 1993 on family planning, protection of the human fetus and conditions for the termination of pregnancy -known as “Stop Abortion” bill - that will be debated in a first reading in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in your sitting of the 15-16 April 2020. We are convinced that measures that roll back protections for women’s human rights and self- determination are of grave concern as they undermine a core European Union value, that of advancing gender equality. Under human rights law measures that undermine or restrict exist- ing rights are not permitted and these draft bills violate Poland’s obligation to ensure ever greater protection of human rights. We are deeply concerned that the “Stop Abortion” bill provide for the prohibition of termina- tion of pregnancy due to severe or fatal foetal anomalies, currently a legal ground for abortion in Poland. Poland’s Act of 1993 on Family Planning, Protection of Human Fetus and the Con- ditions of Legal Pregnancy Termination is one of the most restrictive laws on abortion in the European Union. The bill would in effect result in a near total denial of access to legal abortion in Poland as most legal abortions are performed under this ground.

In recent weeks Pfizer and AstraZeneca, two of the pharmaceutical firms the furthest ahead at present in the manufacture of effective proven vaccines, announced that they would be obliged to reduce supplies for various reasons. This news has caused bewilderment among EU citizens, who have already endured months of this pandemic that has caused thousands of deaths and enormous damage to the EU’s social and economic fabric. In this context: 1. In the agreements concluded by the Commission, what terms and conditions apply to the supply of the vaccines, and what dissuasive measures and sanctions were included to protect citizens’ rights and the interests of the EU? 2. What measures will the Commission deploy to ensure that these delays are not repeated in the future, including in the event that vaccines from other pharmaceutical firms come onto the market? 3.

    Brussels, 23rd April 2021 Dear Commissioner Johansson, Dear Vice-President Schinas, Since the opening of the new Mavrovouni camp in Lesbos in September 2020, several concerns have been raised over the risk of lead poisoning in a camp built partially on top of a repurposed military firing range.1 The Greek Government is aware of this risk since results of testing conducted in December 2020 confirmed lead contamination in parts of the Mavrovouni camp which currently house around 6,000 migrants and asylum seekers. It is well known that pregnant women and children are those most at risk when living on and playing with soil and dust contaminated by lead. On January 27, 2021, the Greek government published the results2 of limited soil testing that were conducted by the Greek Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (EAGME) in November 2020. 12 samples were taken in the camp and only 3 samples were taken from the area of the camp most at risk: the shooting range. No comprehensive testing has taken place assessing the risks for people living in the camp. These results were examined by two environmental and one medical expert specialised in lead consulted by Human Rights Watch who said that the reported testing was not sufficient in scope to fully assess the extent and severity of lead contamination at the Mavrovouni camp. Moreover, they reported that the methodology used by the EAGME was not clearly described.3 Experts were also concerned that wrong standards have been applied to some of the test results. According to the results of the testing, elevated lead levels were found in two samples: “MAV- 1” (with very elevated lead levels of 2,233 mg lead/soil) and “MAV-12” (with elevated lead levels of 330 mg lead/kg soil).
