  • Brics” Economies the New Phase of Globalisation
The Rise of “Brics” Economies the New Phase of Globalisation Aswani Alexander Assistant professor Department of management St Paul institute of professional studies Indore INTRODUCTION Coordination between Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) began informally in 2006, with a working meeting of the foreign ministers of the four countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Since then, the acronym, created a few years earlier by the financial market, no longer confined itself to identifying four emerging economies. BRIC became a mechanism for cooperation in areas that have the potential to generate concrete results for Brazilians and the peoples of the other member countries. Since 2009, the Heads of State and Government of the group meet annually. In 2011, at the Sanya Summit, South Africa became part of the grouping, adding the "S" to the acronym, now BRICS. In the last 10 years, 10 Summit meetings have taken place, with the presence of all the leaders of the mechanism: 1st Summit: Yekaterinburg, Russia, June 2009; 2nd Summit: Brasília, Brazil, April 2010; 3rd Summit: Sanya, China, April 2011; 4th Summit: New Delhi, India, March 2012; 5th Summit: Durban, South Africa, March 2013; 6th Summit: Fortaleza, Brazil, July 2014; 7th Summit: Ufa, Russia, July 2015; 8th Summit: Benaulim (Goa), India, October 2016; 9th Summit: Xiamen, China, September 2017; 10th Summit: Johannesburg, South Africa, July 2018; and 11th Summit: Brasília, Brazil, November 2019 Since the first summit in 2009, BRICS has significantly expanded its activities in several fields, but it was the financial field that guaranteed greater group visibility from the outset.

They signaled Beijing’s growing confidence in its ability to use economic leverage to craft policy toward ASEAN.

  • Representations of Cities in Republican-Era Chinese Literature
Representations of Cities in Republican-era Chinese Literature Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Hao Zhou, B.A. Graduate Program in East Asian Languages and Literatures The Ohio State University 2010 Thesis Committee: Kirk A. Denton, Advisor Heather Inwood Copyright by Hao Zhou 2010 Abstract The present study serves to explore the relationships between cities and literature by addressing the issues of space, time, and modernity in four works of fiction, Lao She’s Luotuo xiangzi (Camel Xiangzi, aka Rickshaw Boy), Mao Dun’s Ziye (Midnight), Ba Jin’s Han ye (Cold nights), and Zhang Ailing’s Qingcheng zhi lian (Love in a fallen city), and the four cities they depict, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Hong Kong, respectively. In this thesis I analyze the depictions of the cities in the four works, and situate them in their historical and geographical contexts to examine the characteristics of each city as represented in the novels. In studying urban space in the literary texts, I try to address issues of the “imaginablity” of cities to question how physical urban space intertwines with the characters’ perception and imagination about the cities and their own psychological activities. These works are about the characters, the plots, or war in the first half of the twentieth century; they are also about cities, the human experience in urban space, and their understanding or reaction about the urban space. The experience of cities in Republican era fiction is a novel one, one associated with a new modern historical consciousness.
