Overstreet was named BMI Songwriter of the Year, five straight years (1987-91), an achievement on Music Row that has not been accomplished before or since. Paul will be joined by "Jethro Twang" a group of area musicians who will perform before and with our featured artist. In addition, Electra's own Steve Staley Band will open the show, as well, a few songs will be performed by Robert Craighead an LA based actor and singer, formerly of Electra. The Grand Theatre is honored to also have the great "Big Jim" Russell as our Master of Ceremonies for the evening. "Big Jim" is one of North Texas most celebrated radio personalities of the past 40 years.

    Deana Carter Danny Myrick

    Deana Carter DEANA CARTER, the daughter of famed studio guitarist and producer Fred Carter, Jr., grew up surrounded by musical greats, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, and Simon & Garfunkel. She developed her songwriting skills at writer’s nights throughout Nashville, but her real break came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Willie Nelson, who remembered Deana as a child. Impressed with how she’d grown as a songwriter, Nelson asked Deana to perform along with John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Young, as the only female solo artist to appear at Farm Aid VII in 1994. Her 1996 debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? quickly climbed to the top of both the country and pop charts, quickly achieving multi-platinum status. "Strawberry Wine,” the first single from the album, was awarded CMA's 1997 Single of the Year. Seven albums and a decade later, Deana is still writing and producing for both the pop/rock and country markets when not on the road touring. Her superstar success continues to be evident. Her chart topper “You & Tequila,” co-written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated in 2011 as CMA’s “Song of the Year” and received two Grammy nods. Carter also recently co-wrote and produced a new album for recording artist Audra Mae while putting the finishing touches on her own Southern Way of Life that hit the shelves last December.     A Proclamation By Governor Ronnie Musgrove WHEREAS, Kenny Chesney was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1968; and WHEREAS, Kenny Chesney grew up singing the music of Conway Twitty and Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Lefty Frizzell, Willie Nelson and George Strait, Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley, Vern Gosdin and John Conley; and WHEREAS, Kenny moved to Nashville in 1991 to pursue a music career and begin playing at a Nashville honky tonk called the Turf; and WHEREAS, Kenny met Clay Bradley, head of Publisher and Writer Relations at BMI, who helped him land his first songwriting contract with Acuff-Rose Publishing that led to a recording contract with the now defunct Capricorn Records country division; and WHEREAS, after an impressive debut album in 1993, Joe Galante, chairman of the RCA Label Group, not only offered Chesney a recording contract, but he bought his Capricorn masters; and WHEREAS, with two double platinum records for Everywhere We Go, Greatest Hits, and multiple week hits such as “How Forever Feels,” “Don’t Happen Twice,” “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,” Kenny’s Greatest Hits hit the triple platinum mark and his recent No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems has been certified double platinum; and WHEREAS, Kenny has been named Country Single of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards, nominated for Entertainer, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year for his double platinum No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems at this year’s Country Music Awards and headlining country music’s top grossing tour--$24 million; and WHEREAS, Kenny has been recognized as “Country’s Hottest Bachelor” by Country Weekly, “Sexiest Men Alive” by People magazine, fan-voted CMT: Flameworthy Awards Male Artist of the Year; and now considered by many to be in country music’s upper echelon of artists; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ronnie Musgrove, Governor of the State of Mississippi, do hereby proclaim January 18, 2003 as KENNY CHESNEY DAY in the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend the life and legacy of this great musician.
