Feast of Our Lady Introduction As we look forward to the month of May, we look to Our Lady, the crown of creation, our solace and hope, for a renewal of our relationship with Christ, healing for the world, and a repentant heart, returning to the Father. United to her heart, which was so united to her Son’s, there is no suffering we cannot endure, no trials we cannot bear, since the cause of our joy and hope, has given us such a wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. To help prepare our hearts for our 100th Anniversary as a parish, 70th as a school, as well as to honor Our Lady as Queen of Heaven and earth, please see the suggested opportunities leading up to the feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel (April 26th). Prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel (Mater Boni Consilii) Most Glorious Virgin, chosen by the Eternal Counsel to be the Mother of the Eternal Word made flesh, thou who art the treasurer of Divine graces, and the advocate of sinners, I, thy most unworthy servant, have recourse to thee; be thou pleased to be my guide and counselor in this vale of tears. Obtain for me through the Most Precious Blood of thy Divine Son, the forgiveness of my sins, the salvation of my soul, and the means necessary to obtain it. • R.E. Prayer Requirement Guidelines
R.E. Prayer Requirement Guidelines This year in the Religious Education Program we are re-instituting Prayer Requirements for each grade level. Please review the prayers required to be memorized, recited from text, \understood, or experienced for the grade that you are teaching (see p. 1) Each week, please take some class time to work on these prayers so that the R.E. students are able not only to recite the prayers but also to understand what they are saying and/or reading. The Student Sheet (p. 2) will need to be copied for each of your students, the student’s name placed on the sheet, and grid completed for each of the prayers they are expected to know, or understand, or recite from text, or experience. You may wish to assign the Assistant Catechist or High School Assistant to work, individually, with the students in order to assess their progress. We will be communicating these prayer requirements to the parents of your students, and later in the year, each student will take their sheet home for their parents to review their progress. We appreciate your assistance in teaching our youth to know their prayers and to pray often to Jesus… to adore God, to thank God, to ask God’s pardon, to ask God’s help in all things, to pray for all people. Remind your students that God always hears our prayers, but He does not always give us what we ask for because we do not always know what is best for others or ourselves. “Prayer is the desire and attempt to communicate with God.” Remember, no prayer is left unanswered! • Our Lady of Good Counsel Novena April 17-26
Our Lady of Good Counsel Novena April 17-26 O Holy Virgin, to whose feet we are led by our anxious uncertainty in our search for and attainment of what is true and good, invoking you by the sweet title of Mother of Good Counsel, we beseech you to come to our assistance, when, along the road of this life, the darkness of error and of evil conspires towards our ruin by leading our minds and our hearts astray. O Seat of Wisdom and Star of the Sea, enlighten the doubtful and the erring, that they be not seduced by the false appearances of good; render them steadfast in the face of the hostile and corrupting influences of passion and of sin. O Mother of Good Counsel, obtain for us from your Divine Son a great love of virtue, and, in the hour of uncertainty and trial, the strength to embrace the way that leads to our salvation. If your hand sustains us, we shall walk unmolested along the path indicated to us by the life and words of Jesus, our Redeemer; and having followed freely and securely, even in the midst of this world’s strife, the Sun of Truth and Justice under your maternal Star, we shall come to the enjoyment of full and eternal peace with you in the haven of salvation. Amen. We pray this novena for the intention that families across our country, who desire an authentic Catholic education and culture for their children, will discover Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church & School and decide in faith to relocate and join our community.

We can all look forward to an eventful fall here at O.L.G.C. Our parish school is off and running with great enthusiasm under the direction of our new principal Mrs. Barbara Riley, our PREP is back in session, and our many parish organizations are meeting and active once again. The OLGC School Alumni Association is holding its homecoming weekend, and our annual 40 Hours Devotions will be held from October 22 to October 24. I encour- age everyone to spend some time with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Although we Christians are not called to be “of” the world, we are required to live and function within the world. As a large and active parish, this means that we incur many ongoing expenses, and our facilities require constant maintenance. Repairs were recently needed for the roofs of both the church and the school. Expenses were also incurred from a termite problem in the church and Trinity Center. The largest recent expense was the resurfacing and repainting of the parking lot which cost $30,365. The above is all in addition to our regular operating expenses. Many of you have been very generous to OLGC for many years. I am truly grateful, and I do not take your generosity for granted.
