NEWS wmphoenixopen.com Release Date: December 22, 2015 Media Contact: Ryan Woodcock [email protected], (480) 766-1221 WATSON, FOWLER AND KOEPKA AMONG EARLY COMMITMENTS FOR 2016 WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN PHOENIX, Ariz. – Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and defending tournament champion Brooks Koepka are among the first commitments to the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open, set to tee it up February 1-7 at TPC Scottsdale. A field of 132 players will vie for the $6.5 million purse, the $1,170,000 first-place check and 500 FedExCup points. “The early list of commitments we have received is already impressive and we expect more big names to commit as we get closer to the tournament, which is now just 40 days away,” said Tournament Chairman Dan Mahoney. Bubba Watson is the highest ranked player on the Official World Golf Ranking (No. 4) currently in the field and is coming off a solid 2015 season that included victories at the World Golf Championships-HSBS Champions and the Travelers Championship to finish fifth in the 2015 FedExCup standings. Fowler came on strong in the second half of 2015, winning THE PLAYERS Championship and the Deutsche Bank Championship on his way to a fourth place finish in the 2015 FedExCup Standings. He currently ranks fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking. 2016 World Golf Championships–Cadillac Championship (The 16th of 43 events in the PGA TOUR Season) Doral, Fla. March 3-6, 2016 Purse: $9,500,000 Trump National Doral-Blue Monster Par/Yards: 72/7,543 Final-Round Notes – Sunday, March 06, 2016 Weather Sunday: Mostly sunny skies with a high in the low 80s. Northerly winds increased to 15-25 mph in the afternoon. Final Leaderboard 1 Adam Scott 68-66-73-69—276 (-12) 2 Bubba Watson 69-69-71-68—277 (-11) T3 Danny Willett 68-69-72-69—278 (-10) T3 Rory McIlroy 71-65-68-74—278 (-10) 5 Phil Mickelson 67-72-70-70—279 (-9) 6 Jimmy Walker 69-72-73-66—280 (-8) Winner Stats After nine holes of the final round, four players, Bubba Watson, Danny Willett, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, made the turn tied for the lead at 10-under and a back-nine shootout looked likely. It was Adam Scott, who made the turn at 8-under, who came from behind after starting the day three strokes behind Rory McIlroy. Scott began with a birdie on the opening hole before a pair of double bogeys at Nos. 3 and 5 halted his challenge. Scott then played the last 13 holes in 6-under par. After driving behind a tree on the final hole, Scott bravely tried to cut his second shot around the tree and over the water. His ball came to rest on the grassy bank inside the water hazard left of the green. Scott chipped to 6’ 8” below the hole and made the putt to win in back-to-back weeks on the PGA TOUR.
