Kevin Na ...............................267 *Won 18-hole playoff. **Won sudden-death playoff. ***Tournament Players Champion. ****Won sudden-death playoff after event was shortened to 54 holes due to rain. 6 LAST YEAR'S CHAMPION Kevin Na is certainly a believer in "horses for courses." He knows his game is better suited for certain PGA Tour courses versus others, and that gives him great confidence when playing at those venues. So when the 2019 Charles Schwab Challenge rolled around on the calendar last May, Na was chomping at the bit. His course record-tying 61 in 2018's final round propelled him to a fourth place finish, his third top 10 finish at Colonial in 10 years. (Na also had the first round lead after an opening 62, and held the lead in the 2015 tournament for three rounds before finishing 10th.) "It's a golf course I always look forward to coming to," Na said. "It just fits my eye. You don't have to overpower it; it's a fairway-and-in golf course. It's about how good you can hit it with the irons, and how well you can putt." Kevin Na Nonetheless, his opening 70 left him six shots off the pace. A second round 62, his second such score at Colonial in two years, put him in the thick of things at eight under par for 36 holes. That was good for second place. Challenging him for the top spot on a windy Saturday were 2016 champ Jordan Spieth, Jim Furyk and Tony Finau. Na's 69 was good enough to claim the outright lead by two shots. On Sunday, the 35-year-old Na never flinched. "On the first tee I saw the Wall, looked at the space below Justin Rose (2018 champ), and in my head I engraved my name," Na said after the round. "Just trying to visualize success before I teed off." Four birdies on the front nine beat back all challengers. Two more birdies on the back nine, for a 66, saw him cruise in with a four-shot victory at 13-under par. The victory was his third on the PGA TOUR. "I knew this is one of the places I can definitely win, and I really look forward to coming here, having a chance. To be able to do it today, it's a great feeling," Na said. "I think winning at Greenbrier last year has taken a lot of pressure off," he continued. "I felt so much more comfortable; I had so much more confidence. It helped me today." No other player who has competed at Colonial more than 10 years has a lower scoring average here. Na's average is 68.37 over 46 rounds. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Na emigrated with his family to the United States when he was eight years old, settling in southern California. He left Diamond Bar High School after his junior year to play professional golf at age 17. He joined the PGA TOUR in 2004 through its Q-School. He claimed his 4th TOUR win at Las Vegas last October, the site of his first win in 2011. Na and his wife Jullianne live in Las Vegas with their two young children, Sophia and Leo. 7 2019 COLONIAL RESULTS May 23-26 2017 COLONIAL RESULTS DID NOT MAKE CUT Rank Player R1 R2 R3 R4 Total Money Xander Schauffele ...
