At the November Committee Meeting it was decided to allocate $300 - 350 for the - purchase of a slide projector. For many years projectors have been méde available to the Club by generous members. It is now felt that a projector would be a worthwhile purchase.

ENVIRONMENT FAIR

The Environment Fair will be held on Sunday 10 February. If you are interested in helping with the Fair please contact Andrew Jackson 882423(h) 477260(w) who will be organising the Club's participation in the Fair.

WALKS REPORT

4 November Wog Wog to Bibbenluke At last, a Wog Wog to Bibbenluke walk that succeeded! Fifteen people left the cars at 8.00am and by 12.30 were on the top of Bibbenluke, looking for a suitable lunch spot. The weather was good with no rain at any time and suitably cool during the few climbs. On the way out there was a low cloud cover that obscured the tops of most peaks but by the time we had climbed out of Burrumbeet Brook the cloud had broken and risen so that we could easily see Bibbenluke, Owen and Cole before us and all of Corang behind us. Lunch was at a point that gave a magnificent view of everything in an arc from Donjon, Owen, Cole to Currockbilly, Admiration Point and Corang as well as some good views of the sheer Bibbenluke Walls themselves. S

During the outward journey we had also met Rod's weekend party at the base of Corang Peak. (Incidentally, Rod, you weren't solely responsible for the fine weather - I helped by leaving my camera at home). On the return journey some of us made a brief detour to Yunga Lookout for more spectacular views, including masses of the flowering epiphytic orchid, Dendrobium striolatum. I think that the only people who suffered on the trip were (1) Dave Truman who had some boot trouble and (2) a couple of people who paid more attention to the 'E' part of the VL/E classification than to my red ink warning on the booking sheet that this was NOT a beginner's walk, nor a leisurely stroll. Despite this everyone managed a fair pace at least, but next time I'll try to make sure that everyone knows exactly what the walk involves. Heino Lepp

WALKS PREVIEWS

Sat 15 December Kambah Pool Red Rocks Gorge An afternoon and evening walk - bring food for evening meal (cookable/gourmet/Christmassy if desired) and a torch in case darkness catches us. Those with lilos can explore the pools in Red Rocks Gorge by water. Total distance 6km, or 8km if we go as far as the rapids. Jeff Bennetts

15-16 December An opportunity to link with the day walk on Sunday. Saturday will be a conventional Endrick River trip to set up a base camp about 2km downstream from the access point. Then there will be an optional side trip further downstream. On Sunday, we will return to the access point and join the day walkers for a side trip to the spectacular Endrick Falls. Suitable for less experienced walkers. Rod Peters Sun 16 December Endrick Falls This walk involves a short walk along a fire trail, a drop of a couple of hundred metres down a ridge then a rock hop of about 2km to the falls. The Endrick Falls are well worth seeing in their own right but the swimming pooi at the base of the falls must be the biggest and best in the area. If the river is very high it may be necessary to make a compulsory swim to get to the falls so put the gear in your pack in a plastic bag. In a normal summer the falls can be reached with dry feet but last summer it was necessary to swim! Vance Brown

(21)22 - 30 December Cape Barren Island There are still three vacancies on this trip, subject to availability of seats on commercial flights from Melbourne to Launceston. If interested, please contact the leader, Rod Peters, as soon as possible. Short/medium trip involving mainly beach walking. Rod Peters

Sat 29 December Tuesday 1 January Four days somewhere in east Gippsland My preferences are for either a walk in the Gorge area of a lilo trip from MacKillop's Bridge to Buchan on the . In both cases the map is Murrindal 1:100 000.Depending on the abilities, inclinations and size of the party, I might do one of these trips or something else, not necessarily for 4 days. Expressions of interest, the sooner the better, by phone, but no later than noon on Thursday 27 December. P.S. If this trip doesn't go to the Snowy, I'll put one of the Snowy trips on for the January long weekend. Hick Crofts El

(4)5 - 6 January Canyons - Clatterteeth and Wollangambe Following from last year's Bell and Wollangambe canyon trip, a similar trip will go down Clatterteeth and Wollangambe this year. These are the two classic lilo canyons in the Blue Mountains. There are many long pools which we can drift slowly along. You will need to bring a lilo, a number of strong plastic bags to waterproof your pack and sunburn cream etc. because it is easy to get burnt while liloing. There will be no abseiling. Any people with questions can ring me at home on 478175. Keith Thomas

Sun 13 January Tuross Cascades and Falls This walk involves a walk along a fire trail to the cascades, the length of which will depend on the state of the road and how far we can take the cars. Tuross Cascades has a number of small waterfalls and rock pools, the largest of which provides good swimming. If the river level is not too high there is also a natural waterslide into this pool. There will also be an optional trip to the lookout point at Tuross Falls, a spectacular waterfall if the river is high. The vantage point offers a view down the impressive Tuross Gorge where we may see the weekend party staggering along. This trip will involve some scrub (about 1.5km) before another fire trail is reached, a short distanCe from the falls. We will then return to the cascades for another swim and/or cup of tea before returning to the cars. The grade to the cascades is short/easy and if the falls are included it is medium/medium. Vance Brown

12-13 January Bumberry Creek and Tuross Gorge Becoming an annual event under various leaders. The trip is emphatically L/R with a very early start (about Sam ex—Canberra), long days (usually camp just before dark) much river walking/ rock hopping, several compulsory swims and a couple of simple downclimbs with rope. In return, possibly the most spectacular scenery and river gorge country south of the Blue Mountains. Phone bookings are ok and REQUIRED from walkers not very well known by me. Alan Vidler

FIRST AID COURSE

Knowledge gained from a First Aid course is an essential adjunct to bushwalking and many aspects of our daily lives! If you wish to enrol in such as course, please watch IT for further details. In the past we have been able to arrange a First Aid course concentrated over one weekend with the examination one evening a couple of weeks after the course. We need to muster about 25 bushwalkers to enrol in the course to justify a course for our needs. Enquiries to any Committee member. 5
