Better Webshop with Beter Bed Better Webshop with Beter Bed Testbirds Case Study Better Webshop with Beter Bed In the product category of bedroom furniture, big ticket items like beds and mattresses are purchased about once every 8-10 years. This makes it utterly important for Beter Bed to provide a solid user experience that is easy and satisfying, in order to retain customers in the long run. Beter Bed and Testbirds work together on a regular basis, to make sure that Beter Bed’s digital platforms work like a dream. https://www.beterbed.nl Before implementing changes to their desktop and mobile website, Beter Bed worked with Testbirds on a Prototype Evaluation where the menu structure of their prototype was compared to the existing website structure. Testers were also asked to give their opinions on a new part of the website dedicated to advice and inspiration. This evaluation provided feedback from end-users on what they liked or disliked, allowing changes to be made to improve the prototype. Additionally, it gave insights for new features that could be added for a better user experience and higher customer satisfaction. Testing with Real End-Users To start out, the test design was developed by a Testbirds project manager together with Beter Bed. Although Testbirds has services to meet all needs, tests can also be tweaked to a custom solution which is always appreciated. “The ability to customise and the personal relationship are important factors in Beter Bed’s choice of Testbirds as a testing partner.” Jaap van den Broek, UX/CRO Lead at Beter Bed For this test, 21 testers were selected in a wide range of ages with a focus on testers above 35, as requested by Beter Bed. The selected testers had a total of 17 unique devices, consisting of both Mac and Windows computers as well as several generations of iOS and Android phones. This broad range of devices means that the prototype was tested on different systems, ensuring maximum functionality. Age and Gender Distribution 20 – 29 2 Female 1 Male 30 – 39 2 1 3 40 – 49 6 4 50 –59 2 0 2 4 6 8 Building an Even Better Prototype The testers went through use cases to find a specific type of bed, using both the prototype and the existing website separately. This was followed up with the testers giving their ratings on the clarity and layout of the menu structures, the clarity of which products Beter Bed offers, and how easily they could find the product in question. The new prototype was given a higher average rating than the existing website. Additionally, testers found it much easier to find the correct product on the proto type while using a smartphone. In fact, several testers couldn’t find the product at all on the existing website, indicating a clear area for improvement. When asked to compare the prototype and existing website side-by-side, almost all testers preferred the menu in the prototype, both on desktops and smartphones. The main reasons for this were the increased use of images, clearer structures in the navigation and submenus, and less clicks needed. The new page for advice and inspiration was well- received, however, there were still valuable sugges- tions for improvement. For example, several testers said that they would want direct links to products mentioned in this section and that it could be clearer that the products were available at Beter Bed. Overall, the prototype was said to give a better overview of the products that Beter Bed offers. “To really enjoy your bed, there should be other products that complement it and will increase the quality of your sleep.”, says Jaap van den Broek. By visualising these products with the use of images, Jaap hopes to increase awareness of these products and improve the overall customer experience, including their quality of sleep. Bettering Beter Bed by Testing with Testbirds Prior to this Prototype Evaluation, Beter Bed and Testbirds have worked together on several projects, evaluating for both functionality and usability. The reason for the high quality in projects is the way Testbirds works together with clients, putting together a test scenario that makes sense both from a testing point-of-view and for Beter Bed’s product and platform. Both during and after the project, we keep a close and personal relationship with valuable feedback and detailed reports. The fact that test results are available even after the project has concluded are especially appreciated, as this allows Beter Bed to look back and apply past insights to new ideas. The projects conducted have led to improved sentiments from customers, and Beter Bed will keep working with Testbirds to continuously get feedback for a better customer experience.
