Suri, Gyeonggi-do. Key words: Coleophora, Coleophoridae, New record, Korea The genus Coleophora Hübner, which belongs to the Asia (Baldizzone et al., 2006). The family Coleophoridae is subfamily Coleophorinae (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea: Coleo- distinguished from the allied group of families by the following phoridae), is commonly known as “casebearers”. Larvae characteristics: i) hindwing with Rs and M1 separate; ii) construct portable cases and feed on living tissue of various hindwing with M3 and CuA1 shape (e.g. separate, connate or plants, and the pupation takes place in the case (Baldizzone et stalked); iii) antennal pectin present; iv) valva divided with al., 2006). Constructing behavior and shape of case vary the costa developed as a free lobe in male genitalia (Hodges, among species, and the related cases are correlated with 1998). The genus Coleophora is the largest genus of the habitats of host plants. family with 1,326 described species (Baldizzone et al., 2006), The family Coleophoridae is subdivided into four subfamilies and it is a single genus in Korea. In Korea, since Park and (Hodges, 1998), with more than 1,340 species worldwide, Baldizzone (1992) had reported 16 species of the genus, having a great diversity in the Western Palaearctic and Central Baldizzone and Savenkov (2002) added four species; C. adspersella Benander, C. parki Baldizzone & Savenkov, C. sternipennella (Zetterstedt), and C. ulmivorella Oku. Recently, *Corresponding author: [email protected] Received January 4 2013; Revised January 23 2013 Kim and Park (2009) reviewed the genus Coleophora in Accepted February 4 2013 Korea, reporting 27 species. In this study, C. virgaureae Stainton is reported for the first Diagnosis. This species is similar to Coleophora cristata time from Korea. External morphology including adult and Baldizzone in the superficial and in the genitalia structure, but genitalia of this species are examined and illustrated. it clearly differs from the latter by the transtilla is smaller with a sharper point in the dorsal margin; sacculus is broader with Materials and Methods the longer and weaker teeth in the dorso-caudal angle; the shorter aedeagus with thinner dorsal process in the male The material examined is deposited in the Korea National genitalia; ductus bursae longer and thinner; signum rather Arboretum (KNAE), Pocheon, Korea.
