District Disaster Management Plan- Udupi
DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN- UDUPI UDUPI DISTRICT 2015-16 -1- -2- Executive Summary The District Disaster Management Plan is a key part of an emergency management. It will play a significant role to address the unexpected disasters that occur in the district effectively. The information available in DDMP is valuable in terms of its use during disaster. Based on the history of various disasters that occur in the district, the plan has been so designed as an action plan rather than a resource book. Utmost attention has been paid to make it handy, precise rather than bulky one. This plan has been prepared which is based on the guidelines from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). While preparing this plan, most of the issues, relevant to crisis management, have been carefully dealt with. During the time of disaster there will be a delay before outside help arrives. At first, self-help is essential and depends on a prepared community which is alert and informed. Efforts have been made to collect and develop this plan to make it more applicable and effective to handle any type of disaster. The DDMP developed touch upon some significant issues like Incident Command System (ICS), In fact, the response mechanism, an important part of the plan is designed with the ICS. It is obvious that the ICS, a good model of crisis management has been included in the response part for the first time. It has been the most significant tool for the response manager to deal with the crisis within the limited period and to make optimum use of the available resources. -

AGROI'EDOLOGY, 4: 1994 Characterisation Of Soils Of Western Ghats In Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka ,(j,C, SATISHA AND BADRINATH Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, University of Agricultural SCience, Bangalore-560 065, Abstract " Eight typical soil profiles collected from Western Ghats at high elevation of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka were studied for assessment of their fertility status, The soils of western ghats at Agumbe upland and midland were silty clay loam, clay loam and clay in texture, They were distinctly acidic (pH 4,4 to 5.9). The status of organic carbon decreases with te"ain elevation. The nutrient status was low to adequate. The su1ace soil has higher amount of available zinc, copper and iron than subsurface layer. AITHAL 1Energy & Wetlands Research Group, Centre for Ecological Sciences [CES], 2Centre for Sustainable Technologies (astra), 3Centre for infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning [CiSTUP], Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, 560 012, India Email: [email protected] Abstract: Large scale land use changes leading to deforestation has attracted attention since the mid-19th century as the process is associated with issues related to global warming, consequent climate changes, alteration of biogeochemical cycles, alterations in the regional hydrological cycles, loss of endemic biodiversity apart from impacting the livelihood of the native population. Field research was undertaken in conjunction with the use of multi-resolution remote sensing data to assess the changes in the land use with the implementation of a thermal power project. This paper focuses on a land use land cover changes that have occurred due to the establishment of a 1200 MW power plant at Padubidri in the coastal district of Udupi, Karnataka. The results indicate that the vegetation has decreased from 8.1 (2003) to 4.24% (2011) while the area under built-up has increased from 5.26 to 8.1%. Continuing on our success of Ugadi, we hosted the following events- Talent Day: Thanks to everyone who participated in the Talent day event organized at Milpitas Teen Center on May 23rd, 2010. We had several events such as Card Game (Turup), chess, Carom, Table Tennis, Wii, Basketball hoops and cooking contest. In addition we had an art and poetry showcase clubbed with the event. Several of the community members participated and enjoyed this event. We also had a food drive for Second Harvest food bank during this event and we would like to thank everyone who donated. Annual Picnic: KAOCA’s annual picnic was held on 28th August at Central Park, Santa Clara. The day-long event with fun activities and food was attended by over 150 Konkanis. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the fun and cozy setting in Central Park. The day started with a friendly cricket match. The kids enjoyed the inflatable jumps and the popcorn. The food served was an Indianized version of the Chipotle bowl. The afternoon activities included games for both adults and kids. -
