St. Martin`s Cloak Ministry - meet monthly and take care of people with heating, electric, and financial issues. Hospitality Ministry - weekly the parishioners set up coffee and pastry for fellowship after the two Sunday Masses. GiGi Ministry - parishioners volunteer to go to a local Pediatric Facility to spend time with children who have various medical needs and 75% of whom reside at the facility with no family support. The volunteers go at various times during the week and on the weekend. Evangelization Ministry - this ministry is part of the working of the Pastoral Council. The members of this Ministry have been working on various ways to reach the parishioners, the inactive parishioners and the community at large. This ministry meets bi-weekly. Parish Youth Band- The teenagers lead us in music for liturgies once a month. They meet three times a month to rehearse for the weekend that they lead us in song. Children`s Liturgy of the Word - This ministry is involved in taking children out of Mass at the Opening Prayer and works with them in understanding the Scriptures of a given Sunday. This Ministry is active for all weekend Masses. The volunteers are both adults and teenagers. Vacation Bible School - held every summer with a director and volunteer adults to present the program based on a given theme. Liturgical Ministry- We have parishioners who volunteer to as lectors, ushers, altar servers, greeters, and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. Sacramental Environment Ministry - Parishioners volunteer to plan the various liturgical season decorations for the church. They meet seasonally. Aid for Friends Ministry - Parishioners meet the last Wednesday of each month to put meals together for the Aid for Friends Program in Philadelphia. Both adults and children participate in this ministry. They average 1000 meals each month and then on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service they make meals as well. Prayer Corps - Monthly 2105 Young Adult Group - Weekly 1533 Our Lady of the Blessed 1550 Our Mother of Sorrows 1600 St. Rose of Lima PPA: 610 1010 St. Agatha-Saint James Trained Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve three large hospitals in this parish: Children`s Hospital of Philadelphia, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Presbyterian Hospital. They serve at least weekly and usually some times a week, particularly at HUP. The Parish Pastoral Council generally meets four times a year, and met twice in joint meetings with Staff and Parish Finance Council January - June. This helped in the sharing of common purposes and in better understanding the mission of Saints Agatha and James Parish and the Newman Ministries. The Parish Finance Council meets quarterly, in addition to the shared joint meetings already noted. RCIA was again a viable program, meeting weekly throughout the year and culminating at the Easter Vigil 2014. We also again hosted Collegiate Confirmation 2014. Newman Ministries at Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania are our primary apostolic responsibility. We provide numerous programs for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni to foster a rich spiritual and community life through liturgical, devotional, spiritual, and social experiences for members of these universities throughout the academic year. The majority of those who attend these programs are Drexel and Penn students. Administration: January - June 2014: Rev. James McGuinn, Pastor and Chaplain; Assistant Director of Drexel Newman Ministry; Assistant Director of Penn Newman Ministry; assistance from active Drexel and Penn Newman Councils. July - December 2014: Rev. Carlos Keen, Parochial Vicar and Chaplain; Director of Drexel Newman Ministry; Assistant Director of Drexel Newman Ministry; Director of Penn Newman Ministry; Assistant Director of Penn Newman Ministry. In addition, both Drexel and Penn have active contributing Newman Councils and Executive Boards comprised of students. The Hospitality Committee hosted social gatherings after each of five weekend Masses one weekend in the Spring of 2014. The Newman Catholic Center and the Rectory hosted several Open Houses for various groups from January to June 2014. Beginning in July 2014 the Hospitality Committee began to offer coffee and donuts after each Sunday Mass (4 Masses). On Sunday, December 7 we held our first Marian Procession, walking with a statue of the Blessed Mother through the streets of our Parish neighborhoods and the campuses of Drexel and Penn. We concluded our Procession at the Church of Saints Agatha and Penn with the celebration of Holy Mass. We had over 100 participants and almost 250 attended the Mass. The Hospitality Committee offered a dinner of bread and soup after the Mass. The Hospitality Christmas gathering was especially successful! Many divergent members came together, contributed and participated in a joyful celebration! Plans for 2015 include Hospitality Values workshops administered by the Pastor. We had volunteer Choirs for each of the five weekend Masses from January to May 2014. From mid-May to December 2014 we have had four Sunday Masses with volunteer choirs. These choirs meet weekly to rehearse individually and all of them come together as a Music Ministry during/before each liturgical season to make music decisions that are in harmony with the liturgical decisions.
