Description In this collection are items from nine Naperville financial institutions: of Naperville, First National Bank of Naperville, J.P. Morgan Chase, Mid-America Federal Savings, Naperville Bank and Trust, Naperville National Bank, Naperville Savings and Loan, Reuss State Bank, and Willard Scott & Co. With the exception of J.P. Morgan Chase, these are home grown established by Naperville businessmen to promote savings and home ownership. The Bank of Naperville and Willard Scott & Company were operating in 1854, only twenty-three years after the first settlers arrived. The First National Bank of Naperville served the community from 1891-1933, and was succeeded by The Naperville National Bank in 1934. Reuss State Bank, established in 1867, was a Depression casualty. Naperville Savings and Loan helped increase the growth of home ownership after World War II. Mid America Federal Savings and Naperville Bank and Trust are examples of modern banking practices and advertising. This collection shows how they all tried to cater to customers with services such as Christmas Clubs, certificates of deposit, retirement accounts, handy to keep track of personal finances, even sewing kits. Naperville's economy ebbs and flows like any community and its banks reflect the endless quest for prosperity by its businesses and citizens.
