Known origi- nally as West Tennessee Normal School, the institution opened its doors Sept. 10, 1912, with Dr. Seymour A. Mynders as president. TStudents in the first classes selected blue and gray as the school colors and the Tiger as the mascot. (Tradition holds that the colors, those of the opposing armies during the Civil War, were chosen in commemoration of the reuniting of the country after that divisive conflict.) Over the next decade, The Desoto yearbook was created, the first library was opened in the Administration Building, the first dining hall was built and the first men's dorm was built; today that dorm, Scates Hall, houses the academic counseling offices. In 1925 the name of the college changed to West Tennessee State Teachers Col- lege.

Cindy Lovelace: NASHVILLE, TN (CO-FOUNDER, AND EMPLOYED AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SINCE 2015 Why are you serving on the HNF board? The road to creating the Healing NET Foundation began on a patient path for me, and a physician path for Dr. Eric Liu. We had no idea our paths would cross, but when they did, I felt relief and peace at finding a doctor who understood and had experience treating this odd cancer. It began a conversation, which led to a partnership to help other patients find the right path. With Dr. Liu’s medical expertise, and my background in media, marketing, and fundraising, we work with our Board of Directors to fill the gap between patient advocacy organizations who educate the known patients and the physician organizations who represent NET experts already aware of the disease. With this collaboration we are able to bring it full circle. We want to better connect patients with the expert care needed, and help them advocate for themselves, and provide the most updated and solid information about NETs to community physicians and health care professionals. Every week my thoughts are with the patients and caregivers I’ve met, but my concern grows for those who are still searching for answers or are resigned to the limited answers they’ve been given. About Cindy Lovelace Cindy Francis Lovelace began a radio news career in Nashville at WKDA-WKDF in 1979, serving as a Capitol Hill reporter, then Program Director/News Anchor. In 1995, she became Director of Promotions at WKDF/WGFX radio, and was promoted to Director of Marketing and Promotions for WKDF/WGFX/Titans Radio when the company purchased the rights to Tennessee Titans Radio Network in 1998.

Lovelace Seeks to Raise Awareness of Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET) NASHVILLE (Wednesday, November 9, 2016) – Cindy Lovelace, former Nashville radio executive (WKDA/WDKF/WGFX), cancer survivor and co-founder of the Healing NET Foundation, is one of six nominees nationwide for the Hero of Hope™ Patient Award from the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators® (AONN+). The Award will be given out at AONN’s seventh annual Navigation and Survivorship Conference next week in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 19. The Hero of Hope™ Award seeks to honor individuals who are living with cancer and who are inspiring others through their contributions to their communities, by serving as a role model to other cancer patients and survivors, or by exuding extraordinary spirit, grace and optimism in the face of adversity. “I am honored to be nominated for The Hero of Hope™ Award as it gives me the opportunity to raise awareness of ‘Neuroendocrine Tumors’ and NET Cancer Awareness Day,” said Lovelace. “After surviving breast cancer and being declared cancer-free in 2005, I was diagnosed with NET six years later – a diagnosis I am still fighting today. Having never heard of this particular cancer and finding very few resources about it, I established The Healing NET Foundation with co-founder, neuroendocrine surgeon Dr. Eric Liu. Together, we strive to provide education and support to the medical community and help patients connect to better resources.” In an attempt to educate the public on this rare cancer, Thursday, November 10 has been designated nationally as “NET Cancer Awareness Day” - #NETCancerDay. Neuroendocrine cancer made headlines in 2011 as it claimed the life of Apple’s Steve Jobs, the same year Lovelace was diagnosed with the same type of cancer.
