Descendants of Joseph Turnpenny 17 June 2011 Descendants of Joseph Turnpenny 17 June 2011 First Generation 1. Joseph Turnpenny was born in 1764 in Yeadon. He lived in Hightown, Birstall on 12 Nov 1786. On 12 Nov 1786 he was in Razor Grinder. Shown on Williams Baptism. Joseph appeared in the census in 1841 in In the area, Henshaw Lane, Moor Lane & Swine Car Lane, Yeadon.. In 1841 he was in Umbrella Maker.. He died in 1843 at the age of 79 in Otley (2Q1843-23-350)(79). On 22 Oct 1848 Joseph was in Grinder - as shown on sons marriage certificate.. Note, The basis of this tree was from Peter Russel from High Wycombe, who is tracing his Turnpenny ancestry from Ann 7th July 1826. With the exception I changed the head of this tree to Joseph and added further details. (March 2006) On finding the 1841 census for Yeadon this clarified this tree and added extra legs, but I now think that Joseph 1764 is the son of Joseph 1733 on my tree (No1). I purchased the tweezers in September 2008 thinking that they were part of his tool kit but now think he was actually making these tweezers as another identical set have appeared on ebay on the 17th June which I will bid for. Joseph Turnpenny and Ann Robertshaw were married on 11 Oct 1785 in Birstall Parish Church (IGI)(PR). From the Archbishop of York Marriage Bonds & Allegations. 7th Sept 1839 Birstall Parish Church. Joseph Turnpenny - 21 - Bradford & Ann Robertshaw - 21 - Bradford. Ann Robertshaw was born in 1763 in Yeadon. John Turnpenny, born 1803, Yeadon; married Ann Whitaker, 6 Oct 1822, Guiseley (IGI); married Mary Liversedge, 2 Feb 1851, The Parish Church, Leeds (1Q1851-23-436)(MC); died 1871, Wharfedale (1Q1871-9a120)(68). v. William Turnpenny was born in 1786 in Hightown, Birstall. He was baptized on 12 Nov 1786 in Hartshead, York. From Hartshead York PR. 12th Nov 1786 William Turnpenny son of Joseph Turnpenny Of Hightown in the Parish of Birdstall - Razor Grinder. 5 vi. Martha Turnpenny, born 1797, Guiseley; married Alexander Hird, 3 Dec 1815, Guiseley (IGI). Second Generation 2. James Turnpenny (Joseph-1) was born in 1791 in Yeadon. He was baptized on 24 Jul 1791 in Guiseley (IGI). He appeared in the census in 1841 in Grey Lane, Otley. In 1841 James was in Umberella Maker. On 17 Jun 1845 he was in Umberella Maker ( at sons marriage). In 1848 he was in At marriage Grinder. James lived in At time of marriage Otley on 12 Oct 1848. He appeared in the census in 1851 in Croft Green, Otley. In 1851 he was in Razor Grinder & Cloth Dryer. James appeared in the census in 1851 in Walkergate, Otley.. In 1861 he was in Cylinder & Block Dresser.. He appeared in the census in 1871 in West Cresent, Otley. In 1871 James was in Cutter. He died in 1872 at the age of 81 in Wharfedale (4Q1872-9a108)(81). On the 1841 census it says age of 45 & on the 1871 census he is a boarder staying with Joshua Dawson. On his marriage to Mary, Joshua was one of the Witnesses. James Turnpenny and Rebecca Flesher were married on 31 May 1814 in Otley (IGI). Rebecca Flesher, daughter of Miles Flesher and Margaret Childs, was born in 1791. She appeared in the census in 1841 in Grey Lane, Otley. She died in 1847 at 1 Descendants of Joseph Turnpenny 17 June 2011 the age of 56 in Bradford (3Q1847-23-120). On the GRO death records shown as Turnpenney. James Turnpenny and Rebecca Flesher had the following children: 6 i. Ann Turnpenny, born 1826, Otley; married Joshua Pickles, 17 Jun 1845, St. Peters Church, Bradford. (2Q1845-23-194). ii. James Turnpenny was born in 1821 in Otley. He was baptized on 1 Feb 1822 in Otley (IGI). He appeared in the census in 1881 in 27, Elm Street, Leeds.. In 1881 James was in Cloth Dresser. He died in 1885 at the age of 64 in Leeds (2Q1885-9b309)(64). Shown on 1881 census as unmarried and Living with Margaret Broadbent. iii. John Turnpenny was born in Apr 1831 in Otley (IGI). He died in May 1831 at the age of 0 in Leeds (5 Weeks). He was baptized on 8 May 1831 in Otley. John was buried on 15 May 1831 in Leeds, Bramley St. Peters.(FFHS). iv. Margaret Turnpenny was born about 1816 in Otley (IGI). She was baptized on 22 Sep 1816 in Otley (IGI). 7 v. Mary Turnpenny, born abt 1828, Otley (IGI) - C1851 says Yeadon; married George Womersley, 1850, Otley (2Q1850-23-575). vi. Miles Turnpenny was born about 1819 in Otley (IGI). He was baptized on 13 Jun 1819 in Otley (IGI). He died in 1830 at the age of 11 in Otley. Miles was buried on 21 Oct 1830 in All Saints, Otley. 8 vii. Rebecca Turnpenny, born abt 1834, Otley (IGI); married John Thomas Modling, 1865, Bradford (4Q1865-9b40); married David Parkinson, 1865, Bradford (4Q1865-9b40). 9 viii. Sidonia Turnpenny, born abt 1823, Otley (IGI); married Jonathan Myers, 1846, Bradford (3Q1846-23- 150). ix. William Turnpenny was born about 1815 in Otley (IGI). He was baptized on 6 Aug 1815 in Otley (IGI). James Turnpenny and Mary Watnough were married on 22 Oct 1848 in The Parish Church, Otley (Otley 4Q1848-23- 565)(MC). Marriage certificate shows Mary Watnough, Widow, her father is William Whittaker a Tailor, James is shown as a widower. The witnesses were Joshua Dawson & William Daphne. Mary Watnough, daughter of William Whittaker, was born in 1795 in Otley. She lived in At marriage Otley. on 22 Oct 1848. She appeared in the census in 1851 in Croft Green, Otley. Mary appeared in the census in 1851 in Walkergate, Otley.. She died in 1862 at the age of 67 in Wharfedale (3Q1862-9a90)(67). She was buried in 1862 in Wharfedale, Parish Register.. Before marriage to Watnough she was Mary Whittaker 3. Mary Turnpenny (Joseph-1) was born in 1789 in Guiseley (IGI). She was christened on 28 Jan 1789 in Guiseley (IGI). Mary Turnpenny and William Denneson were married on 29 Dec 1811 in Guiseley (IGI). William Denneson was born (date unknown). William Denneson and Mary Turnpenny had the following children: 10 i. Elizabeth Turnpenny, born 1808, Yeadon; married John Clapham, 31 Jul 1832, Bingley (IGI); died 1885, Keighley (2Q1885-9a129)(77). 11 ii. He died in 1871 at the age of 68 in Wharfedale (1Q1871-9a120)(68). On Ebay there was a pair of Tweezers engraved J. Ann Whitaker was born in 1799. She appeared in the census in 1841 in In the area, Henshaw Lane, Moor Lane & Swine Car Lane, Yeadon.. She died in 1843 at the age of 44 in Otley (2Q1843-23-352)(44). Alfred must have died at birth and his mother Ann shortly afterwards, may have been a birth complication. John Turnpenny and Ann Whitaker had the following children: i. Alfred Turnpenny was born in 1843 in Yeadon (Otley 1Q1843-23-471). He died in 1843 at the age of 0 in Otley (2Q1843-23-351)(0). 12 ii. Charles Turnpenny, born 1823, Guiseley; married Grace Singleton, 21 May 1843, Leeds (2Q1843-23- 312)(MC); married Elizabeth Middlebrook, 1861, Leeds (1Q1861-9b406); married Mary Webster, 1876, Bradford (3Q1876-9b344); died 1896, Wharfedale (3Q1896-9a85)(73). iii. Obadiah was buried on 4 May 1837 in Wesleyan Chapel of Yeadon (Grave KK 49). 14 vi.
