CRA/LA has helped restore the pride of the City of Los Angeles and its many varied and diverse neighborhoods. It has helped shape a dynamic Los Angeles and in doing so has improved the quality of life for its citizens, residents and businesses. Since being activated by the City Council of the City of Los Angeles in April 1948, the elimination and prevention of the spread of blight and deterioration has been a major goal of the Community Redevelopment Agency. BUILDING COMMUNITIES Celebrating over 60 years of accomplishment SINCE 1948 CRA/LA has been a catalyzing force and an economic stimulus in revitalizing many Los Angeles communities. For over half a century, our endeavors have produced a multitude of landmarks throughout the city. We have fostered many initiatives vital to the city’s future, including the launching of the Los Angeles CleanTech Incubator (LACI), the City’s first CleanTech initiative, and the NoHo Art District, which includes the Art Institute and the Academy of Television Arts. Our activity extends from San Pedro and Watts to Broadway Manchester, Crenshaw, Koreatown, Downtown, the Eastside, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, covering more than 20,000 acres. We have completed over 42 million square feet in projects involving retail, hotel and industrial space. BUILDING Our impact is City-wide, covering over 20,000 acres, over 39 COMMUNITIES neighborhoods and over half a million residents. It includes SINCE 1948 over 42 million sf of retail, hotel and industrial space. Improving the infrastructure of the city neighborhoods has been a pressing need for the past six decades and CRA/LA has sought to address the many physical problems in these neighborhoods by planting street trees, paving alleys, upgrading streets, sidewalks and sewers providng much needed parking facilities, removing graffiti, developing public service centers and installing new and better street lights. Through our Community Advisory Committees and Project Area Committees, CRA/LA kept its stakeholders apprised of projects and developed a practice of galvanizing the community with community pride days, residential clean ups, festivals and other cultural events. BUILDING Our consistent community engagement has been the key to COMMUNITIES successful public improvement and quality of life initiatives SINCE 1948 CRA/LA FACTS & FIGURES • According to the US Census Bureau 2010’s figures, population in CRA/LA project area was estimated at 505,302 and projected to rise to 522,878 by 2016. • Almost 30% of this population reports an annual income of under $15,000. • The Agency carries 38, 341 units in current housing convenants. (including affordable housing and rental subsidies) • CRA/LA has generated over 22 million in cultural facility development, public art and art conservation in the past 5 years via the CRA/LA’s Cultural Arts Programme. • In 2011 alone, CRA/LA was successful in leveraging its resources with private investments by a 10 to 1 ratio. BUILDING CRA/LA’s impact in leveraging investments and the local COMMUNITIES economy is practically immeasurable. The facts above give SINCE 1948 some indication. Our recent and ongoing efforts... EAST & WEST NOHO COMMONS | North Hollywood Project Area VALLEY This project has contributed to the renaissance of the North Hollywood Arts & Entertainment Districts which now has more than 30 live theaters, art galleries REGIONS and sound studios. Phase III includes live-work space and residences. EAST & WEST IVY TERRACE | Laurel Canyon Project Area VALLEY Completion of 411 affordable housing units. Creation of programs that promote homeownership and foreclosure prevention. REGIONS EAST & WEST PLAZA PACOIMA | Pacoima/Panorama City Project Area VALLEY Plaza Pacoima, a major commercial retail center built to LEED standards that includes a Costco, Best Buy and a 4,000 square foot retail pad. Plaza Pacoima created 684 jobs. REGIONS EAST & WEST CD 7 CONSTITUENT SERVICES CENTER | Pacoima/Panorama City Project Area VALLEY This civic center is 12,400 square feet including Council District 7 field offices, City offices, constituent services, and 2,500 square feet of commercial space. REGIONS EAST & WEST PIERCE STREET VILLAS | Pacoima/Panorama City Project Area VALLEY This affordable self-help homeownership project involves 24 single-family residences. All units are restricted to low-income households, and include four bedrooms, two bath- REGIONS rooms, and 2-car garages. The project also includes a “tot-lot” for resident children. EAST & WEST WEST VALLEY FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM VALLEY Reseda/Canoga Park Project Area Over 100 storefronts along the Sherman Way Commercial Corridor in Canoga Park and REGIONS Reseda have benefited from façade improvements. EAST & WEST HART VILLAGE | Reseda/Canoga Park Project Area VALLEY 47 two and three bedroom apartments for low and very low income families. Hart Village features a 3,800 sf child care and community center. It was designed with sustainable features, REGIONS including a solar energy system that generates 50% of the energy needs for all common areas. EAST & WEST TIERRA DEL SOL | Reseda/Canoga Park Project Area VALLEY Features 119 one to five bedroom apartments for low and moderate income families. The REGIONS complex also features a charter school and the 12,000 square feet Dennis P. Zine Community Center that offers a variety of social services to the community. SOUTH BUCKINGHAM PLACE | Crenshaw Project Area LOS ANGELES Affordable housing project, consisting of 69 senior housing units, was completed despite bankruptcy of previous developer. Part of the Marlton Square project, Buckingham Place REGION received it’s Certificate of Occupancy on January 6, 2012. SOUTH EXPOSITION PARK SOCCER FIELDS | Exposition/University Park project area LOS ANGELES A $6 million state-of-the-art multi-use Sports Field built with $2 million from a Proposition 1C award the CRA/LA received in 2008. The sports field complements the $30 million REGION Exposition Center/Swim Stadium that CRA/LA assisted in the early 2000s. SOUTH MARTIN LUTHER KING SHOPPING CENTER | Watts Project Area LOS ANGELES The MLK shopping center is a 10-acre development located at the center of Watts (the largest of its kind in the community) and includes up to 100,000 square feet of REGION commercial/retail space. SOUTH WESTERN/SLAUSON INDUSTRIAL REVITALIZATION | Western/Slauson Project Area LOS ANGELES This is approximately 76 acres of industrial businesses totaling almost 1,200 employees. CRA/LA has focused on monthly breakfast meetings, initiating a Business Improvement REGION District, funding a beautification program, working with brokers to fill vacancies. SOUTH KAISER MEDICAL FACILITY | Vermont/Manchester Project Area LOS ANGELES Kaiser constructed a new 10,000 square foot medical facility at 1550 W. Manchester Ave. that will provide primary care offices, X-rays, lab testing, and a pharmacy. The new $10 REGION million facility created about 59 construction jobs and 40 permanent jobs. WILSHIRE/VERMONT STATION | Wilshire Center/Koreatown Project Area HOLLYWOOD & This 449-unit TOD apartment complex was completed in 2007. With approximately 30,000 sf CENTRAL of ground floor retail, it includes 90 affordable units and cost an estimated $318 million. CRA/LA funded $131.5 million via conduit bond financing. NATE HOLDEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER | Mid-City Corridors Project Area HOLLYWOOD & The Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (NHPAC) is a multi-use complex comprised of a CENTRAL theatre, a rehearsal hall/studio, an open air lobby complete with 399 theatre seats of which 102 seats are on the balcony level and 297 seats on the orchestra level. This project was completed in 2006 by the CRA/LA. HOLLYWOOD & HIGHLAND | Hollywood Project Area HOLLYWOOD & Completed in 2001 the Hollywood and Highland Center was one of many catalytic projects CENTRAL that provided a rebirth to Hollywood. It brought economic growth to the area by creating jobs, tourism, and an engine for additional projects and improvements to happen thereafter. MOSAIC APARTMENT | Pico Union Project Area HOLLYWOOD & Consisting of 56-unit affordable housing complex in the neighborhood of one of the city’s CENTRAL
