Tourism Ireland opens the door to Game of Thrones® in Ballintoy

~6th ‘Door of Thrones’ unveiled to showcase Northern Ireland to fans worldwide~

As episode six, season six of Game of Thrones® aired last night, Tourism Ireland unveiled its latest ‘Door of Thrones’ – in the Fullerton Arms in Ballintoy, the location for exterior Pyke shots and the Iron Islands in HBO’s drama.

Tourism Ireland’s Game of Thrones® campaign is rolling out until the end of June, showcasing Northern Ireland to millions of the show’s fans worldwide. It involves a series of ten carved doors, each one telling the story of the latest episode. The doors have been created using wood salvaged from trees at the Dark Hedges (otherwise known as in Game of Thrones®), which fell during Storm Gertrude.

Echoing scenes from last night’s episode, this week’s door depicts Targaryens and dragons. Designs for the others were based on “The Red Woman”, “”, “Oathbreaker”, “Book of Stranger” and “The Doors”.

The doors hang in prominent locations for all to see. The door from episode one hangs in The Cuan guest inn in Strangford, near the filming locations of Castle Ward and Audley’s Castle. The second door hangs in Fiddlers Green in Portaferry, near Quintin Bay. The third, is in the Percy French restaurant in Newcastle, near Tollymore Forest Park; the fourth door is in Blakes of the Hollow, Enniskillen, near Pollagollum Cave; and the fifth door is in Frank Owens Bar, Limavady, near Downhill Strand.

Tourism Ireland has also unveiled its sixth – limited edition – Game of Thrones® stamp, another element of the campaign, produced in conjunction with the Royal Mail.
