The crucial focus continues to be on bettering and empowering the lives of rural, underprivileged children through hard work and innovative teaching and learning practices. The path is challenging, yet fulfilling too, as RDF continues to stand proudly and run its schools, into its 2nd decade of operations. This has been possible only through the continuous support we receive from our well wishers and partners. The RDF Head Office team was revamped in order to increase operational efficiency. We have hired qualified, skilled and dedicated people who are admirably managing operations, accounts and education strategy. This has helped streamline the flow of communication between schools, Head Office and RDF s donors and partners. Any NGO needs the support of its partners in order to fulfill its vision and mission for the highest benefit of its primary stakeholders our rural students - who are so deserving of a life free from poverty and become financially independent. Financial and educational support from individuals and organisations that share our vision has always been an– integral aspect of managing program operations. One of RDF s long term partners, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), that has been financially supporting RDF for several years, visited RDF schools to review the activities, operations and utilization of CAF funds. RDF received a very positive review from the CAF team and received a Valedictory Certificate too. CAF also provided insights and mentoring to its partner NGOs in order to increase awareness, visibility, with the aim to increase funding and long term sustainability. Another partner, Synchrony Financial, has started to organize a summer camp for Class 9 & 10 students in English and Life Skills, which goes a long way in empowering our students with invaluable career skills that are desperately needed in order to give them a fair chance at gaining employment. In addition, for the first time in RDF s history, they donated sponsorship amounts for two classrooms! The RDF Team always looks at providing new and interesting opportunities for the children enrolled in its schools. Over the past 20 years, it has been our privilege to have partnered with many inspirational organizations and individuals who have selflessly given their time and commitment to join hands with us to do more for the cause of rural education. Having skilled teachers is critical in ensuring the growth and success of rural education and schools. This year too, we invested considerable time and effort in providing our teachers with training in sound child centred and goal oriented teaching practices, of which an important aspect is designing high quality teaching learning materials. Our volunteers and education partners like Silver Oaks School and Andhra Mahila Sabha devoted their time and expertise towards this key area. We are very grateful to all of them! The schools have also enthusiastically taken on the onus of providing technical training to their students. Students have been blossoming in this environment of encouragement, to the extent of teaching younger students, making presentations and helping with documentation in their schools. This is all the more admirable because access to computers and technology, as well as learning computer based applications can be hard to come by in rural schools. Therefore, the setting up of computer labs in all RDF schools with the support of our well wishers has been a blessing. The years of toil saw RDF get recognition for its work through the Education World India School Ranking 2016. Based on a meticulous evaluation of our schools, the 4 RDF schools won top rankings in various categories a very proud moment in RDF s history! The students fared well in the Class 10 SSC Board Examinations with 107 students appearing across the four RDF schools, achieving a 91% pass percentage. In the Junior College,– 182 students appeared, achieving an overall pass percentage of 97.3%. RDF students also won several accolades in the sports arena. Several students from the 4 schools and the Junior College won at the National level in athletics, martial arts, cricket, Taekwando, Archery, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi and yoga. Such achievements serve as a major source of inspiration for students, who feel motivated to engage in sports. The emphasis on sports builds skills such as endurance, grit and perseverance. A strong support system for students, built painstakingly over the years, can be credited for our sporting successes. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the contributions of our children, our teachers, school management, Head Office team and of course, our partners the essential cogs in the RDF wheel who make RDF what it is – schools that Educate, Engage and Empower rural communities to take charge of their lives and be flag bearers of rural empowerment! – – 3 RDF SCHOOLS PERFORMANCE REPORT Enrolment Table Enrollment Table Student Enrolment New Student Enrolment Withdrawals Institutions 2015-2016 Admissions 2016-17 Boys Girls Total Boys Girls Total Boys Girls Total Boys Girls Total Kalleda School 353 249 602 104 64 168 80 38 118 377 275 652 Matendla School 265 197 462 55 38 93 90 69 159 230 166 396 Rollakal School 83 91 174 89 41 130 51 18 69 121 114 235 Redlawada School 123 118 241 36 42 78 50 26 76 124 102 226 VAPV Junior College 195 155 350 130 93 223 98 68 166 227 180 407 Total 1019 810 1829 414 278 692 369 219 588 1079 837 1916 Analysis Overall enrolment in RDF schools has gone up between 2015-16 & 2016-17 The new enrolments in all RDF institutions, except Matendla School, was higher compared to the total withdrawals Withdrawals in Matendla were high due to government schools reopening in the district and special schemes being offered for enrollment.
