JERRY LEWIS (1926 -) AMERICAN KNOWN for his slap-stick comedy, was born in NewJersey, the son of entertainers. He left school to perform in theatre and and in 1944 met singer . In 1946, they became a duo in NewYork nightclubs, combining Martin's singing and Lewis' comedy. In 1949, they made their film debut in . The pair hosted the Col- gate Comedy Hourand starred in films, including Scared Stiff (1953), and (1956) before splitting. Lewis began a solo career, appearing in films (1960), The Ladies' Man (1961) andThe NuttyProfessor (1963). In 1977, he was nominated forthe Nobel Peace Prize for his work fighting muscular dystrophy.

Run of success A FUN run inspired by a Campbellfield man's love for his son raised $46,562 for the Muscular Dystrophy Research Foundation last month. Ozi Akyildiz started Run for Strength after his son Kaya was diagnosed with the disease in 2008. More than 500 people joined the run around Albert Park Lake last month.
