Press Release Press Release For Immediate Release December 9, 2020 Toby Crouse Sworn In as United States District Court Judge for the District of Kansas (Kansas City, Kansas) The Court is pleased to announce that Toby Crouse has been sworn in as the 31st District Judge for the District of Kansas. Judge Crouse was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 17, 2020, received his commission on December 2, 2020, and was sworn in on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Judge Crouse will sit in Topeka and Judge Teeter will move to the Kansas City Courthouse. Most recently, Judge Crouse served as Solicitor General for the State of Kansas. Earlier in his career, Judge Crouse practiced law at Foulston Siefkin LLP and Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP. Judge Crouse received his B.S. from Kansas State University and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. During his legal studies, he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and also as an articles editor on the University of Kansas Law Review. Following law school, Judge Crouse served as a law clerk to two federal judges. He clerked for the Honorable Monti L. Belot of the United States District Court for the District of Kansas from 2000 to 2002, and the Honorable Mary Beck Briscoe of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit from 2002-2003. Judge Crouse succeeds United States District Judge Carlos Murguia. Judge Crouse noted, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside the judges before whom I spent a career practicing and to rejoin the court family that, years before, welcomed me in as a law clerk. This opportunity would not have been possible without the love and support of my family, the encouragement of Kansas’s Senators, and the mentoring of countless colleagues within and beyond Kansas. I am eager to get to work for the federal judicial system and the Kansans it serves.” U.S. District Court, District of Kansas Contacts: Kim Leininger, Chief Deputy Clerk [email protected] (913) 735-2225 Timothy M.
