Building Progresses in Madison

Missionary Robert Ledford III reports on the progress of the new building in Madison. The contractors say the building should be completed by year's end. The members remain faithful to all worship services, the fellowship is strong and the young people are very active in their service to the Lord. The cost of the building is $600,000 which does not include furnishings or necessary outside items such as retention pond, septic system, driveways, etc. Heartfelt thanks are sent to the Florida State Ladies Auxiliary for choosing Landmark's building fund as the State goal.

Missionary Seeks New Sponsoring Church

David Goulding is a missionary to Hispanics in the Miami area and is sponsored by the Village Green Baptist Church where Tommy Waggoner is pastor. He was temporarily serving as director of the church’s school which gave him access to many Hispanic families. However, he and his pastor agreed that his duties as missionary take priority, so he has resigned as school director in order to better focus on his mission work. Several changes that have happened in Village Green in recent months have made Bro. Goulding and his pastor feel it would be in the missionary’s best interest to seek a new sponsoring Missionary church. Any church that is interested may contact Pastor Tommy David Goulding Waggoner at (305) 220-0990.

Markey Kite was a faithful missionary from 1960 until he was forced to retire because of health reasons in 2007. Markey was born in Plant City, Florida, in 1922. He served in the U.S. Army Merchant Marines during World War II. He was saved in 1946 at the age of 23 at the Main Street Baptist Church in Lakeland, surrendered to preach in 1947 and about a year later felt the call to the mission field. He pastored five churches in Florida before going on the mission field in Peru in 1960. He was forced to leave Peru because of his health. In 1963 he went as a missionary to the Virgin Islands and worked there about two years. He then attempted to enter the Bahamas as a missionary but was denied entrance. He returned to Florida where he pastored for three years. In 1971 he attended the Spanish language school in Costa Rica and entered Mexico as a missionary in 1972 where he worked for 35 years. He married Addie Sheffield in 1939 and they had three children, Betty, Vivian and Edward. He was living with his son, Edward, in Tennessee when he passed away on November 8th at the age of 86. He told this humorous story, “After we were married I thought I would buy her a dress. I didn’t know sizes and Addie was twenty-three, so I asked for a size twenty-three. The lady said all she had was an eighteen. I happily carried it home and soon found out that Addie wore a size 12!”

11 PICKUP NEEDED The college was given a beautiful custom van a couple of years ago by a very generous family. It has been used some but not enough to justify the license and insurance expense. What the college could use is a pick-up. So, we are in the mood to trade the van for a pickup of equal value. If you are interested, please call Dr. Jimmy Williams at (813) 684-1389.

This is a 1995 GMC Vandura 2500 customized by the Explorer Van Company of Warsaw, Indiana, and has 61,000 miles on it. It is powered by a 350 ci V-8 and gets 14 mpg. The seats are leather and the rear seat lets down to make a bed. There are two TVs and two VCRs. The air conditioner and radio will require some attention. The ladder is missing from the rear door and there are a couple of small dents where the ladder came off. The van seems to be in sound mechanical condition and has been driven to Arkansas and Kentucky as well as locally. This would make some couple or family a great vehicle to travel in.

17 Spurgeon on Baptist History

We believe that the Baptists are the original Christians. We did not commence our existence at the Reformation; we were Reformers before Luther or Calvin were born. We never came from the Church of Rome, for we were never in it, but we have an unbroken line up to the apostles themselves. We have always existed from the very days of Christ, and our principles, sometimes veiled and forgotten, like a river which may travel underground for a little season, have always had honest and holy adherents. Persecuted alike by Romanists and Protestants of almost every sect, yet there has never existed a government holding Baptist principles which persecuted others; nor, I believe, any body of Baptists ever held it to be right to put the consciences of others under the control of man. We have ever been ready to suffer, as our martyrologies will prove, but we are not ready to accept any help from the state, to prostitute the purity of the bride of Christ to any alliance with the government, and we will never make the church, although the queen, the despot over the consciences of men.
