LAWS

OF THE SOCIETY OF ANTIQUARIES OF SCOTLAND.

INSTITUTED NOVEMBER 1780 AND INCORPORATED BY ROYAL CHARTER 6-m MAY 1783.

1. Admission shall be by ballot. r thei f o d an s Candidate e th f o s name e th e caus l shal s Secretarie e Th . 4 Proposers to be inserted in the billet calling the Meeting at which they are to be balloted for. The Ballot may be taken for all the Candidates named in the billet at once ; but if three or more black balls appear, the Chairman of the Meeting shall cause the Candidates to be balloted for singly. Any Candidate receiving less than two-thirds of the votes given shall not be admitted. 5. Honorary Fellows shall consist of persons eminent in Archaeology, who must be recommended by the Council, and balloted for in the same r o n admissio feey f o san r fo e liabl e b t no l shal y the d an ; s Fellow s a y wa annual subscriptions. Five Members of the Council shall be a quorum. 13. The Office-Bearers of the Society shall consist of a President, three r fo s Secretarie o tw , purposes l genera r fo s Secretarie o tw , Vice-Presidents a , Museum e th f o s Curator two , Treasurer a , Correspondence n Foreig Curator of Coins, and a Librarian. The President shall be elected for a . years e thre f o d perio a r fo s Vice-President e th d an , years e fiv f o d perio LAWS OF THE SOCIETY. xiii One of the Vice-Presidents shall retire annually by rotation and shall not again be eligible for the same office until after the lapse of one year. All the other Office-Bearers shall be elected for one year and shall be eligible for re-election. 14. In accordance with the agreement subsisting between the Society and the Government, the Board of Manufactures (now the Board of Trustees) shall be represented on the Council by two of its Members (being Treasure Th . y Society e th y b y annuall d electe ) Society e th f o s Fellow shall be represented on the Council by the King's and Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer (being a Fellow of the Society).

15. The Council shall consist of the Office-Bearers, the three representa- tive Members above specified, and nine Fellows, elected by the Society. 16.
