WFD Cycle 2 Catchment Lower Shannon Subcatchment Newport[Tipperary]_SC_010 Code 25D_1 2UGQDQFH6XUYH\,UHODQG$OOULJKWVUHVHUYHG/LFHQFH1XPEHU(1 Generated on: 11 Jan 2019 1 Generated by WFD Application Assessment Purpose This assessment has been produced as part of the national characterisation programme undertaken for the second cycle of Water Framework Directive river basin management planning. It has been led by the EPA, with input from Local Authorities and other public bodies, and with support from RPS consultants. The characterisation assessments are automatically generated from the information stored in the WFD Application. They are based on information available to the end of 2015 but may be subject to change until the final 2018-21 river basin management plan is published. Users should ensure that they have the most up to date information by downloading the latest assessment before use. 2 Evaluation of PrioritySubcatchment Issues Of the 6 river water bodies in this subcatchment, all are Good ecological status (2013-2015). Three of the water bodies are considered to be NOT AT RISK: Newport (Tipperary)_010, Newport (Tipperary)_030 and Small (Tipperary)_010. IFI noted that fish status in Newport (Tipperary)_040 may be impacted by the Newport abstraction and weir, with the ideal measure being removal of the weir and replacement with a rock ramp. This is not considered a significant pressure however, as the current fish potential is satisfactory and the ecological status of the water body has been consistently Good during WFD monitoring cycles. The Newport (Tipperary)_020 and Dooane_010 are AT RISK as they are not meeting the High Ecological Status Objective.
