Grow LA Victory Garden Initiative & Altadena Community Garden | Spring 2018
MONARCHS & MILKWEEDS April 7 | 10 AM -12 PM with David Karp David taught high school for close to forty years. He has spent the last 10 years helping teachers plan and execute gardens as well as ponds, vermiculture, aquaponics, and beekeeping. He has also consulted for the Los Angeles Arboretum, Arlington Gardens, and schools in the area on how to grow a butterfly garden.
PERMACULTURE & SOIL BUILDING April 28 | 10 AM - 12 PM with Rick Perillo Rick Perillo is the founder www.thecarrotrevolution.com. Rick will teach a hands-on workshop about the importance of building healthy soil, introduction to sheet mulching, companion planting, fruit tree guilds, food forests, annuals vs perennials and demonstrate planting a permaculture guild.
BACKYARD ORCHARD CULTURE May 12 | 10 AM - 12 PM with Patricia Hasen Patricia is a Registered Nurse at the VA hospital in LA and a Master Gardener. She will share her vast knowledge she has gained growing her own backyard orchard in this workshop. She will be discussing planning your orchard, size control, successive harvest, maintenance, fertilizing, irrigation, mulch, and pest control.
The classes will be held at the Altadena Community Garden, which is adjacent to Altadena Community Garden Loma Alta Park and at the corner of Lincoln Ave. and W Palm Street. You can access 3330 Lincoln Ave. the garden through the parking lot in front of the park on Palm Street where you Altadena, CA 91001 will find parking. Please do not park in the garden itself as this is reserved for resi- dent gardeners. You will see gates to enter the garden once you park.
