Former MLB Player Eric Byrnes Breaks 12 Hour Speed Golf World Record

Napa, CA: ​On April 21st, 2018, former player and current MLB Network Analyst Eric Byrnes participated in a 12 Hour Speed Golf Charity Event at the Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park benefiting non-toxic lymphoma treatment research. In the allotted 12 hour time frame, Byrnes completed 245 holes, setting a new world record.

The official Guinness Book of World Record for most golf holes completed in 12 hours without a cart was 221, set in 2005 by Canadian Scott Holland at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course.

In 2016, legendary ultra runner, Karl Metzler (aka The Speed Goat), golfed 230 holes at the same event Byrnes participated in: the Napa Valley Speed Golf Challenge at the Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park.

In 2017, Brad Luiten, a 35-year-old from Arkles Bay, Auckland, New Zealand played 237 holes in 12 hours at Helensville Golf Club to establish a new world record mark.

Byrnes played 13 rounds and 11 holes from the white tees at the Napa Golf Course which measure 6081 yards with a slope rating of 126. According to Strava, Byrnes ran a total of 65.5 miles en route to setting to new world record mark.

He used one club the entire time: an 8 Iron.

Byrnes has officially applied the 12 Hour Record with The Guinness Book of World Records, and is awaiting the review of evidence.

Byrnes’ wife Tarah, sister Shea, brother-in-law Justin, and Byrnes’ 3 kids Chloe (9), Cali (7), and Colton (6), followed him in a golf cart for the duration of his record-setting performance, serving as his support and pace crew.

About Eric Byrnes: Eric James Byrnes is a Bay Area native who grew up in Woodside, CA and attended St. Francis High School (Mountain View) where he excelled playing both football and baseball, before becoming an All-American at UCLA. In 1998, Byrnes was drafted for the 3rd time, signed with the , and went on to play 11 seasons in the MLB with the Oakland A's, , , and . In 2010, Byrnes walked away from baseball and began a career in broadcasting. He has since worked for ESPN, FOX, SiriusXM, KNBR and is currently an analyst with MLB Network. In 2011, Byrnes completed his first full distance Ironman triathlon and has completed 11 full distance Ironmans. Byrnes is an avid supporter of the Pat Tillman Foundation, Challenged Athletes Foundation and Fit Kids. He resides in Half Moon Bay, Truckee and New York City with his wife Tarah, a former Miss California USA 2002, and their 3 children: Chloe, Cali and Colton.
