Evidencing the Impact of the Primary PE & Sport Premium at Chandos Primary School

Created by: Supported by: Chandos Primary School’s pledge for Physical Education

Chandos has an important role to play in promoting choices that lead to better health. We are responsible for a curriculum that gives children a solid body of knowledge about healthy living and the skills to pursue this. Children need to learn how bodies work, why physical health is important and how to prepare food. They need to grow in competence in sport and physical pursuits so that being active is enjoyable for them as well as challenging. Our school’s contribution to reducing childhood obesity should and will focus on education in terms of reinforcing messages, imparting knowledge and developing skills.

OFSTED Recommendations Schools should:

1. Plan a challenging and well-sequenced curriculum, including learning about the body and about healthy living. 2. Provide more time for PE lessons. 3. Provide ample opportunities for children to be active during the school day. 4. Ensure that all pupils can access extra-curricular activities and that cost is not an obstacle to this. 5. Ensure that schools are not using PE and Sport Premium funding for PPA cover. 6. Teach pupils particular skills such as how to move/dance and how to cook. 7. Update parents on their children’s physical development and competence and how active they are at school.

Chandos Primary School’s leadership team will audit, assess, evaluate and evidence efforts made to combat and address all the points above.
