The worst part is that he's actually led a fairly interesting life. This book is a waste of time and money. View 1 comment. Maureen Paton must be some sort of genius: it probably requires hard work and certain skills to write such a dull and horrible book about extremely interesting person and his rich life. Poor Rickman. This book isn't about celebrating Alan Rickman, it's about getting the scoop and making money. Rickman has made it clear he wants his private life away from his career. Alan Rickman, the British actor who played the multifaceted Professor Severus Snape in “Harry Potter” and villain Hans Gruber in “Die Hard” has passed away at the age of 69. He was pronounced dead last Thursday after battling cancer. The news came as a shock to many. I know I was shocked. This was the first thing I saw when I log onto my Facebook account that morning. Not a great way to start my day. Celebrities expressed their sadness on the news. J.K. Rowling author of the Harry Potter series expressed her sadness through Twitter. When asked how she felt, “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. Fans had lost “a great talent” and his family “have lost a part of their hearts.” Daniel Radcliffe who played the titular character Harry Potter, said Rickman was kind and generous ,“Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny,” he wrote on Google+. Like many actors he has never been nominated for an Oscar despite being a critically acclaimed actor. His true love may have been stage acting but I’ll always think of him as Professor Snape, the antagonistic professor who played a major role in Harry’s life behind the scenes. He took on the role only have read three books up to that point. Because of this he did know how much of a good guy Snape was. Rickman is survived by his wife Rima Horton whom he had been together with since 1965. They met as teenager and they have been together ever since.

  • Call for Papers Actors Behind the Camera FILM JOURNAL
Call for papers Actors behind the camera FILM JOURNAL Call for papers for Film Journal Actors behind the camera Guest editors Nicole Cloarec (Université Rennes 1, France) and Delphine Letort (Université du Maine-Le Mans, France) “Actors are cattle” was Hitchcock’s provocative judgement in the famous series of talks that the filmmaker gave to François Truffaut (Jeffries). Truly enough, during the heyday of Classical Hollywood, actors were under contract, like any other cog in the wheel of production of the studio system. The prevailing star system put an end to the “multitasking” norm of the beginning of the movie industry and, in this context, the instances of actors who turned directors (Charles Laughton, Robert Montgomery, Ida Lupino) were all the more remarkable. However, the break-up of the studio system and the advent of independent cinema brought about a new order where a new generation of actors (Dennis Hopper, Paul Newman or Robert Redford among others) had more opportunities to try their luck behind the camera. Since the 1970s, the list of actors-turned-directors has increased dramatically and seems to have become a significant trend in recent years. The list keeps growing exponentially, moving from old-timers like Warren Beatty, Robert de Niro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Angelica Huston or Tommy Lee Jones, to include actors who are also known for their political commitment like Tim Robbins, George Clooney, Jodie Foster, and film stars like Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Sean Penn, Michael Keaton, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey, Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Edward Norton, Ethan Hawke, Natalie Portman, Angelica Jolie, James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Lewitt.
