Book Review: A Good Life All The Way A Jimmy Buffett Biography - Ryan White

Parrott Heads interested in a “just the facts ma’am” review of Jimmy Buffett’s life and career have likely already read Steve Eng’s 1996 Jimmy Buffett The Man from Margaritaville Revealed. But if you live your life like a song and want to transport yourself to those Key West back porches and college bar tours that gave birth to Trop Rock as we know it, then you will want to read Ryan White’s Jimmy Buffett: A Good Life All the Way.

White takes the reader on a fast paced tour of Jimmy’s life and puts you in the room when the inspiration for those were conceived.

As you change latitudes along the way we see the lucky breaks and unlikely locations, Portland Oregon for example, that proved so critical in Jimmy’s success. We also see how JBs early gig as a writer for Billboard Magazine so helped his career. It is notable for example how much Jimmy hung out with Glenn Frey of the Eagles, James Taylor and and how this group of troubadours influenced each other. Perhaps we are fortunate the Eagles hung out in Laurel Canyon while Jimmy was in Key West, could have easily been the other way around.

Any of us who have done the “Duval Crawl” in Key West will recognize the bars and venues that provided so much inspi- ration. White also takes us to the moments when the idea of Margaritaville as a lifestyle takes place. Credit Orlando and the Bronfman family of Seagram’s as the match that lit the flame. Here we see Jimmy emerge as one of the most successful business minds in the music industry.

If you can’t make it down to Le Select on St. Barts, grab this Ryan White has twice been named one of the book and head to the beach, it’s a great read every Parrott top feature writers in the country by Society Head will enjoy! Fins Up! for Features Journalism. He’s written for The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated,

The Sacramento Bee, The Dallas Morning News Review by OCPHC Club Member—Keith Curry and Portland Monthly . He lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and children.

Sail On Sharron Henson by Debi Stephens - Facebook Our club lost a very special warrior in June. Sharron Henson lost her battle with breast cancer. Maybe you never got a chance to meet Sharron, but she was very special. I never saw her without that warm, lovely smile on her face. She would light up the darkest room. Sharron’s spirit was amazing, so kind, so friendly. She loved an adventure and she rarely sat still. Sharron honored each day of her life by living it to the fullest. Heaven gained a magnificent angel, she will greatly be missed by all her family and friends. Sharron, it was an honor to call you friend.

Mac McAnally to Release Orchestral Album of

Original Music in August.

(Nashville) Mac McAnally is widely respected as a "musician's musician" and essential player on countless sessions and tours, and now the singer- moves back into the spotlight with an ambitious new album.

Scheduled to release Aug. 25 on , Southbound is the first of his 14 to present all -original material in McAnally's newly arranged orchestral context. The album features 16 tunes from his catalog, each one spotlighting members of Hattiesburg, Mississippi's FestivalSouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jay Dean, accompanying McAnally's performances.

All were recorded previously by McAnally. Many were also covered successfully by other artists, including Jimmy Buffett ("It's My Job"), Kenny Chesney ("Back Where I Come From"), and Sawyer Brown ("All These Years,") peaking at No. 1 on Billboard Country.

"This pile of songs runs across more than my entire career," McAnnally notes. "My relationship with music has been around as long as I have. I am blessed to call my passion my 'job' and even more blessed to be in a position to play music and benefit not only my family, but many folks from my home state.

A true polymath, McAnally has delivered virtuoso backup on multiple instruments in session with , , George Jones, Dolly Parton and many other well-known artists. His prowess as a player has earned him an unprecedented eight consecutive CMA Musician Of the Year Awards (2008- 2015). When not laying down tracks for superstar singers, McAnally holds down a longtime gig as a mem- ber of Jimmy Buffett's .

Equally distinguished as a composer, he has written many No. 1 songs, beginning with "Old Flame" for Alabama and including Chesney's recording of "Down The Road," with McAnally on guest vocals. McAnally is a member of the Nashville Hall Of Fame and the Mississippi Musicians Hall Of Fame.

A proud son of Belmont, Mississippi, McAnally will donate proceeds from sales of Southbound to the Uni- versity Of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra as well as the Extra Table charity, dedicated to com- batting hunger throughout his home state.

"Sometimes I feel a little guilty about being overly appreciated and awarded compared to some of my heroes and peers. This project hopefully can divert a little spotlight to people and places and situations that deserve more. I'm proud of the music and to have my work done with an orchestra is a dream come true. The fact that the project benefits these two wonderful causes brings it full circle, Back Where I Come From." www.macmcanally.com

Tampico Trauma—The latest Jake Sullivan Novel from Chip Bell:

Having narrowly escaped a deadly attack in Bavaria, Jake and Mike return to Washington, D.C., and reveal what they believe to be the true identity of “The Package” and the role played by Group 45 in its disappearance. Still in need of the key to break Simon Branson’s code, and ordered by President Fletcher to verify the identity and whereabouts of “The Package”, Jake and Mike travel to South America and then Mexico in search of the truth. That truth will come to light in a final confrontation in Tampico, Mexico, where unspeakable evil was hidden for decades in the world of art and culture. The final confrontation between Jake and Mike and the leaders of Group 45 is an unbelievable ending that they never saw coming.

Reinventing The Wheel—New Release from Bob Karwin

At long last, my new album is ready to go. "Reinventing the Wheel" brings a ground breaking new sound to Trop Rock. Tremolo soaked guitars, rockabilly drums, and a single voice, standing alone without being hidden in a giant chorus create this signature sound. This album features two breakout hits from the live shows, "I'm with the Band," and "Bearable Hours." "Reinventing the Wheel" is ten original Bob Karwin tracks intended to carve a new path in the future of Trop Rock music.

Free Fall To Black—John Cunningham’s latest Buck Riley Novel

Travel back to 2006 and the penultimate moment of Buck Reilly’s former success when he discovers the crypt of the Mayan Serpent King and royal treasury in Guate- mala, then marries top super model Heather Drake, and bask in his fifteen minutes of fame–before it suddenly blows apart. By 2008, with the world economy on the brink of collapse, Buck and Jack Dodson’s company is already under siege due to fraud, backstabbing and greed that turns their friends and family alike into adver- saries. Hubris and hasty decisions lead to irreversible consequences, and when a business partner turns up dead, business as usual isn’t business any more. For fans of the Buck Reilly series, buckle up for the turbulent ride that led him to Last Resort Charter and Salvage in Key West, and for new readers, this prequel will launch you into the six book series with your eyes wide open, and Buck’s scars still fresh. A Margaritaville For Everyone.

“You can have the rest of everything I own, ’cuz I have found me a home.…” Jimmy Buffett

Forbes Magazine—June 14th, 2017: Jimmy Buffett adores his fans as much as they adore him. So, when the music legend announced to his Parrotheads that he was currently building a string of Margaritaville- inspired active adult communities, the news spread like wildfire. Now, he’s announced that for his younger fans, nicknamed "Parakeets", he’s building a community for all ages in Bradenton, Florida, in addition to vacation cottages in Orlando.

With so much interest in the communities for those “55 and better” currently being built in Daytona Beach, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina, Buffett has once again joined forces with Minto Communities and Margaritaville Holdings in a partnership for Marina and Luxury Residences at Harbour Isle that will include a Marina inside a 220-acre private island community with 132 luxury residences on Anna Maria Sound directly across from Anna Maria Island. Construction on the marina has begun and is slated for completion in spring 2018. The sales office is currently open and move-in ready homes are now available.

The Bradenton community, on Manatee Avenue West, will feature the relaxed, charming, coastal-inspired design that is the Margaritaville brand and will include 55 wet slips and 128 dry slips, a ship store and up to 30,000 square feet of commercial space with restaurants, entertainment and shops. State-of-the-art aspects will feature floating boat docks and an enclosed boat-storage facility capable of supporting vessels up to 42 feet in length.

For residences on the Marina Walk, there will be walkable access to boating, dining and entertainment on what is Florida’s last private island in one of the most iconic Gulf Coast settings. “There is place like it,” said Minto Senior Vice President William Bullock.

All residences will offer spectacular views of Anna Maria Sound or the lagoon. Priced from the high $400s, residences in Marina Walk range from 1,483 to 1,650 square feet with floor plans that will include two and three bedrooms, with two or three bathrooms, a spacious master suite, gourmet kitchen, dramatic living and dining areas and an expansive screened lanai.

Continued ...

This will be the third and newest neighborhood on Harbour Isle. Each has its own private amenities, including a resort-style pool, kayak launch, outdoor kitchen and more. Owners will have access to the 23,000-square-foot Beach Club, which opens to breathtaking views of Anna Maria Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway. Amenities include a 4,200-square-foot fitness center, second-floor Sky Bar Lounge with billiards area and second-floor balcony for outdoor dining, a covered Cabana Bar, resort-style swimming pool, Jacuzzi, private lounging cabanas, yoga lawn, event lawn and beach for launching kayaks and paddleboards. There is a gated entrance and an observation tower that opens up to a streetscape lined with palm trees that borders a 38-acre lake at the center of the community and a two-mile walking path that encircles the island.

In addition, Margaritaville Resort Orlando today unveiled the first look at its much-anticipated vacation cottages starting at $250,000. “Once we open, Margaritaville Resort Orlando will be a relaxing and fun vacation destination, where travelers can check in, chill out and create unforgettable memories,” said James Bagley, project developer at Margaritaville Resort Orlando.

Expected to open its doors in late 2018, the new Margaritaville Resort Orlando will feature 1,000 units including a mix of resort vacation homes, cottages, villas and timeshare units. With a casual-luxe design and colorful exteriors, these homes will embody Margaritaville’s laid-back lifestyle with an authentic, “no worries” tropical vibe and an escape to the islands experience inspired by Key West, the Bahamas, Jamaica, coastal Carolina, the Florida Keys and towns along the Gulf Coast.

Renters and homeowners will have access to all the development’s amenities, including the dining and entertainment district, swimming areas with a variety of tropical cocktails, a 12-acre water park, 200,000 square feet of festive retail space, recreation such as paddle boarding, snorkeling and more.

Where will Buffett break ground next? The beloved singer is known for listening to the wants of his fans, so stay tuned!
