Vernon ?C As Jim Kelly, the Hall of Fame quarterback, lined up his tee shot, his former Buffalo Bills teammate Steve Tasker offered some advice. ??Do not throw an interception,???? Tasker said. Kelly, displaying his familiar cool-under-pressure poise, never looked up. ??No guarantees,???? he quipped. Kelly then smacked his tee shot onto the green of the 198-yard par 3. On the eve of the Turning Stone Resort Championship at Atunyote golf course, Kelly and Tasker were two of the most obvious signs of the new partnership between Turning Stone and the Buffalo Bills. Kelly and Tasker took part in Wednesday??s pro- am, which was re-named the Buffalo Bills Pro-Am this year. The two Bills greats played with PGA Tour pro Webb Simpson and Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim. Elsewhere on the Atunyote layout, former Bills Scott Norwood and Ruben Brown drove, pitched and putted with other foursomes. ??The Bills were really looking to expand their profile beyond Buffalo and Rochester,???? Steve Mahler, the director of marketing for Turing Stone Resort, said. ??We already had a relationship with the Bills, but this is more of a partnership. It??s designed to bring more football fans to our golf and then the reciprocal is to get more golf fans engaged with the football season.???? There is a heavy Buffalo Bills presence throughout the Atunyote course. The caddies?? bibs bore the Bills logo. A Bills FanZone with fan-friendly activities is located just off the first tee. In addition to the Bills, there are Jills, members of the team??s cheerleading squad, in attendance at the tournament. And there will be more player appearances at Atunyote through Sunday??s final round. While the football players came to Turning Stone on Wednesday, Turning Stone is arranging for resort guests and tournament sponsors to visit the Bills?? training camp at St. John Fisher College in Rochester this week. Mahler noted that the Turning Stone Resort Championship??s new August date; after being held in late September/early October for the past three years, helped make Cheap NFL Jerseys the partnership happen. ??With our earlier time slot, it works well,???? Mahler said. ??Last year, it would??ve been too late. The Bills?? season was already up and running. This year, they??re in training camp in Rochester and we??ve got people going back and forth from Atunyote to Rochester to see some of the Bills?? camp and enjoy the golf here. It??s a great shared experience.???? Before heading out for their round in Wednesday??s pro-am, the four Buffalo Bills players took part in a question-and-answer forum with SU radio play-by-play man Matt Park moderating. The four talked up the excitement surrounding the Bills, especially with Chan Gailey entering his first year as Buffalo??s head coach. They harked back to their playing days, recalling the friendships as much as their four straight Super Bowl appearances. But they also talked golf. Kelly gave Brown some grief about his golf game. ??I??m horrible at golf,???? Brown said in a moment of complete honesty, ??but I can hit the ball.???? Norwood noted that he had driven through the night from his home in Virginia to make it to the event. ??I plan on using that as an excuse. I haven??t slept.???? Boeheim??s reputation as a quick player came up and Tasker, showing off a spot-on impersonation of the Orange coach, mimicked, ??Eh, Tasker, pick it up.???? Kelly joked about playing with Boeheim. ??He??s going to love my shirt,???? Kelly said, pulling at his shirt??s University of Miami logo. Tasker turned out to be the big hitter among the gridiron greats. He pulled his first drive to the left on the first tee, but on the second hole, he bombed a drive to within a pitching wedge on the 447-yard hole. While Kelly ignored Tasker??s no- interception taunt on the third tee to drive the green, Tasker sizzled his shot even closer to the pin. The modest gallery that followed the high-powered foursome was still the largest pocket of fans anywhere on the course on Wednesday. And that??s the whole idea behind the Bills?? parternership with Turning Stone. ?? The Bills franchise is looking to regionalize Discount Jerseys China its fan base,???? Tasker, who is now a member of the Bills?? broadcast team, said. ??Our training camp is in Rochester. We??ve had some games in Toronto. This is one more way they can expand their footprint.???? "Dogs of all shapes and sizes were at Trenton's game Friday night against Reading, who played in Trenton, calling the play malicious and unnecessary.Cousins also issued a statement Friday and apologized again for the collision. It?¡¥s easy to forget those turbulent years after 12 seasons of Joe Torre.? But we clearly don?¡¥t want to go back to the chaos.? While I agree that Girardi has mishandled Sabathia by letting him throw 120 pitches every game (especially since Sabathia has pitched 500 innings in the last two years and is in danger of blowing his arm out if it doesn?¡¥t stop), for the most part the performances of the starters is out of Girardi?¡¥s hands.? And that?¡¥s OK; it happens to the best pitchers in the league (e.g.,personalized nfl football jerseys, Beckett, new nfl nike jerseys, Verlander, Cliff Lee, to name a few).? So while the instinct to hunt for a single scapegoat may be tempting when things are going bad, any blame about the inconsistent starting pitching really falls on the shoulders

No great and enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, though many there be that have tried it.” Herman Melville, my ancestor and author of the classic novel Moby Dick, has passed this advice forward to myself and the world in this quote. The dynamics of the sports environment have proven to be a very worthy topic and have provided a rich amount of material that investigates the actions, thoughts, and behaviors of people as they navigate their way through a social environment that we have come to know as sport. By avoiding the study of fleas, I have instead had to navigate the deep blue waters of research into finding the causes, roots, and solutions to a social problem that has become figuratively as large as the mythical Moby Dick that my great-great uncle was in search of.

The longtime NFL stars added an achievement that will without a doubt move to the top of their accolade-filled biographies when they were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame inAugust, 2014. Jones and Brooks became the first pair of first-ballot Hall of Famers from the same class who attended the same college in over 40 years. The pair’s journey together started 20 years ago. Just as Brooks was wrapping up his All-America career at Florida State in 1994, Jones was joining the Seminoles out of Holmes Community College (Miss.) for the 1995 season. Brooks went to 11 Pro Bowls and never missed a game in 14 seasons (all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), while Jones became the NFL’s premier left tackle, going to nine Pro Bowls over 12 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Both retired in 2008, and, six years later, Jones and Brooks were teammates for the first time as first-ballot Hall of Famers.

  • 13-Cheerleading
CHEERLEADING The presence of a strong cheerleading team has been an feature of Maine athletics for more than half a century. Although the activity traditionally attracts more women than men, the first individual to receive a varsity “M” for cheerleading was a male, Don Green in the 1932-33 academic year. During the 1930s and well into the 1940s, most cheerleaders were males. Their cheering efforts, for the most part, were limited to football games. The first woman to receive a cheerleading “M” was Mary Belle Tufts in the 1947-48 college year. The activity gained in numbers during the 1950s with squads averaging between nine and 15 per year. The Athletic Board, responsible for determining “M” recipients each year, presented the varsity “M”, or an equivalent award, to cheerleaders until the end of the 1959-60 college year. At that time, for reasons which cannot be documented, the Board reversed itself and no “M” awards were made during the next 21 years. In 1981, however, Assoc. Director of Athletics Woody Carville, who was responsible for cheerleading activities among his many duties, was able to persuade the Board to re-instate the “M” award for members of cheering teams. The number of cheerleaders who gained recognition for their efforts grew in numbers significantly during the 1980s, primarily due to the creation of a squad for football games and and a second unit for basketball games. In the 1989-90 college year, some 31 cheering awards were given. Then the rules changed again. The Board decided to award the “M” only to those cheerleaders who were members of both teams.

TOPS MARKETS “Therapy” (Commercial Script) Subject Info: Tops Markets is one of the leading grocery retailers in the Northeast. Goal/Objective: There was a promotion being considered called the Tops Team which would feature former Buffalo Bills players Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Steve Tasker and Kent Hull. This spot would introduce the Tops Team to the public. Writer’s Notes: This spot was intended for a regional audience. But utilizing former Buffalo Bills players also allowed for a special connection with Buffalo Bills fans. As many people know, the Buffalo Bills of the early 90’s played in four consecutive Superbowls only to suffer heartbreak at each and every one. When I was asked to develop creative for this spot, one of the scenarios I was given was Jim (quarterback) bringing the team back together again for Tops Markets. With that in mind, I started to think that if in fact this was a viable scenario, wouldn’t there be a few issues for the former teammates to work through? Probably. Okay, then do we show them working through the issues and if so, how? Therapy. As a fan, I loved the idea. It was fun, self deprecating and a reminder of the glory years.
