I must remind you that the plans for the renewal of the Rhyd y Groes Windfarm are now available at the Library. It is important that you all take advantage of the opportunity to voice your opinions.

Originally, Anglesey wasn’t considered as a potential nuclear In May 1961, a public inquiry discussed the Wylfa proposal site. In 1957, only two sites were identified in North with statutory bodies, including amenity bodies. In the suitable for nuclear power generation, Trawsfynydd in four-day meeting in Memorial Hall, the transmission Snowdonia and Edern on the Llŷn peninsula. At Traws, site cables become the most heated issue. Local planning preparations started shortly, and the actual construction authorities and other stakeholders preferred a submarine two years later. The plan was to gradually redirect the crossing of the transmission lines at the Menai Straits. workforce to the Edern power station site. By this time, however, ‘amenity bodies’, like the National Parks In December, however, the Minister of Power announced the Commission, the Countryside Council, started to nationwide erection of overhead cables all the way from Wylfa to the campaign against the ambitious expansion plans of the mainland. Nevertheless, the CEGB had to embrace the ‘amenity point of view’ in addition to the engineering considerations. Sir William Holford was appointed for this task as the foremost planner of the time. Among others, he designed seven basic principles for siting electricity pylons in order to minimise the amenity losses. After more then 50 years, the Holford Rules are still used by National Grid, including their recent Connection consultation.

With regards to North Wales, the Council for the Preservation of Rural Wales (CPRW) and other amenity bodies favoured nuclear power plants to be build in the proximity of main industrial and population centres (e.g., Deeside), rather than remote locations as CEGB preferred.

Boat Club increased to 64 and this is the time of year when memberships are due for renewal and a new committee or 'team' undertakes the organising of this year's various activities.

But what is it that makes us do it? Why are we prepared to volunteer our time and effort? And more importantly, what do we get out of it?

It's very hard to analyse why each individual member joins the Cemaes Boat Club. For some it is the history of the Charles Henry Ashley that attracts them, the link with the RNLI, and the pleasure of supporting and helping to maintain such a significant boat for the Cemaes community.

For others it is the activity of sailing and rowing CHA, gaining pleasure from being out in the fresh air, on the sea with a group of people who have similar interests. It's exhilarating! It's an opportunity to test seamanship skills, to learn even more and then share this practical knowledge. Sometimes it is physically hard work - but the benefit is the 'feel good' factor when you finish, and the sense of achievement in a job well done.

By becoming a member of Cemaes Boat Club, you will meet new people, make new friends and become part of a sociable group who are developing real strengths in teamwork. We invite interested members of the local community to come and join us.
