Introduction

Good mental health plays a vital impact upon our quality of life and has an effect upon our ability to attain and maintain good physical health and develop positive relationships with family and friends. Positive mental health also plays a part in our ability to achieve success educationally and achieve other life goals and ambitions including those related to work, hobbies, our home life and sporting and leisure activities. As many as 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 10 children experience mental ill health during their life time. Positive mental health is therefore everyone’s business, and in we want to be able to support anyone in need of help and advice regarding mental health matters to access the right support at the right time.

This Directory has been collated and designed by the Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council in collaboration with the Joint Commissioning Unit. The Directory consists of two parts. Part 1 provides information about services for adults from the ages of 18 and Part 2 focuses on services for children and young adults.

Our objective is to provide information regarding services available in the City for service users and GPs, carers, key workers and care co-ordinators so that people requiring help and support can access and make best use of the services provided.

Please note that most services listed are free at the point of entry but some organisations listed may charge for their services. Some services require a referral from a GP or other professional.

For bus information on times and routes please contact 03453 036760 or visit https://journeyplanner.networkwestmidlands.com/Routes

We have made every effort to ensure that the directory is as accurate as possible. All details contained are accurate at the time of publication.

Contact the Elderly (75+) Service Description: Contact the Elderly is a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people. Supported by a network of volunteers, the charity organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and over, who live alone. Offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.

Each older person is collected from their home by a volunteer driver and taken to a volunteer host’s home for the afternoon. The group is warmly welcomed by a different host each month, but the drivers remain the same which means that over the months and years, acquaintances turn into friends and loneliness is replaced by companionship. Their tea parties are a real lifeline of friendship for our older guests who have little or no contact with family or friends. They bring people of all ages together, develop fulfilling friendships and support networks, and give everyone involved something to look forward to each month.
