[n2018-2653] NATIONAL PARKS AND WILDLIFE ACT 1974 Gollion Ochre Quarry Aboriginal Place Pursuant to section 84 of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, I, the Minister for the Environment, being of the opinion that the place known as the Gollion Ochre Quarry is, and was, of special significance to Aboriginal culture, declare the lands described in schedule “A” as an Aboriginal Place. The values for which the Gollion Ochre Quarry Aboriginal Place has been assessed as being significant to Aboriginal culture include, but are not limited to, the site being an important source of rare yellow, red and purple ochre which is highly sought after as a pigment used for decorative purposes, such as body decoration, rock art, bark painting, weapon decoration, preserving animal skins and mortuary practices.

[18th August, 1881.] HEREAS Mary Ann Bates late of Parramatta Road in the Parish W of Concord in the County of Cumberland in the Colony of New South Wales widow deceased was at the time of her death hereinafter mentioned seized and possessed for an estate of inheritance in fee simple of the lands and hereditaments in the first Schedule to this Act men­ tioned and described free from incumbrances and of the lands and here­ ditaments in the second Schedule to this Act mentioned and described subject to a mortgage from the said Mary Ann Bates to John Gurner which said mortgage has not yet been released nor the principal and interest due and owing on the security thereof paid or discharged. Use of the facility will be for warehousing and distribution on a 24 hour, seven day basis. The proposal will include the construction of a warehouse, bulk building, office, raised pedestrian walkway, gate house, as well as internal parks and roads. The proposal is being assessed as a State Significant Development (SSD) under Part 4 Division 4.1 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A 1979). The NSW Heritage Division requested an additional Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirement (SEAR) to address non- Aboriginal heritage and archaeological impacts. The site is listed on the Bankstown Local Environmental Plan (LEP) as an archaeological site— Jacksons Royal Arms site. The State Heritage Register listed item, SHR No. 01630, Sydney Water Pressure Tunnels and Shafts, a largely underground structure, is both below and adjacent to the site. The Chullora Railway Workshops, listed on Sydney Trains’ Section 170 Heritage Register, is adjacent to the site. Sydney Water Pressure Tunnels and Shaft no. 1 is located adjacent to the site and is listed on the Bankstown LEP. Artefact Heritage has been engaged by CIP to prepare a non-Aboriginal Heritage and Archaeological Impact Assessment (HAIA) report for the proposal and in response to the SEAR.
