Professor Michael Chisholjn. Sir Andrew Wheatley,CBE. Mr F B Young, CBE. To the Rt Hon Roy Jenkins, MP Secretary of State for the Home Department PROPOSALS FOR REVISED EI£CTORAL ARRANGEMENTS FUR THE BOROUGH OF GEDLING IN THE COUNT*/ OF NOTTINGHAMSHIRE 1. • East Midlands
Liberal Democrat submission for BCE 3rd consultation East Midlands Submission to the Boundary Commission for England third period of consultation: East Midlands Summary There is a factual error in the Commission’s report concerning the Liberal Democrat counter-proposals in the Leicestershire / Northamptonshire / Nottinghamshire / Rutland sub-region. We would, therefore, ask the Commission to reconsider the scheme we put forward. We welcome the change the Commission has made to its proposal for Mansfield. We welcome the fact that the Commission has kept to its original proposals in Lincolnshire, much of Derbyshire and Derby, and in Northampton. We consider that the changes that the Commission has made to four constituencies in Derbyshire, affecting the disposition of three wards, are finely balanced judgement calls with which we are content to accept the Commission’s view. The change that the Commission has made to the Kettering and Wellingborough constituencies would not have needed to be considered if it had agreed to our proposal for an unchanged Wellingborough seat. The Commission’s proposal to move the Burton Joyce and Stoke Bardolph ward into its proposed Sherwood constituency means that it is now proposing three Nottinghamshire constituencies (Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Sherwood) which contain a ward which is inaccessible from the rest of the seat. We are not in agreement with the Commission’s failure to comply with the spirit of the legislation or the letter of its own guidelines in respect of these three proposed constituencies. We are not in agreement with the Commission’s failure to respect the boundaries of the City of Nottingham to the extent of proposing three constituencies that cross the Unitary Authority boundary.

  • Gedling Borough Council Housing Market Assessment Update
GEDLING BOROUGH COUNCIL HOUSING MARKET ASSESSMENT UPDATE APRIL 2012 B.LINE HOUSING INFORMATION LTD [email protected] www.blinehousing.info Gedling Borough Council SHMA update 2012 - summary • 301 new affordable homes are needed each year to meet emerging need and to clear the backlog (housing register) over the next 7 years. • Most of the need for affordable housing (61%) comes from emerging households, rather than people already on the housing register. • 40% of emerging households are unlikely to be able to afford market housing. • The majority of emerging households could afford housing at the Affordable Rent level, which means that, overall, 56% of the new affordable housing supply (169) could be for Affordable Rent. • There will still need to be considerable provision of social rented properties (301 * 44% = 132) to meet the needs of the minority of emerging households and the majority of people on the housing register. Housing market indicators on price and incomes remain largely unchanged since the previous Strategic Housing Market Assessment Update in 2009. House prices have dropped slightly since 2009, but remain higher than in 2006, when the original SHMA was completed. This report is accompanied by and should be read in conjunction with a spreadsheet model populated with relevant demographic and housing data, to which are applied a number of calculations based on the ‘Bramley’ model, in order to estimate the number of households in need of some form of affordable housing. The model includes notes and guidance on how this need is broken down into those households requiring Social rent, Affordable Rent, and Intermediate housing.

  • The History and Heritage of Gedling Borough
Gedling Borough Brought Alive The history and heritage of Gedling Borough Featuring a host of fascinating historic locations and places of outstanding natural beauty for you to visit. Introduction The purpose of this leaflet is to enable you to find your way around the most important and interesting sites of local and natural history within the borough of Gedling. Each location is open to the public to varying degrees. Some may only be seen from the outside, while others are open to full public viewing, such as Newstead Abbey and Papplewick Pumping Station. Where needed, contact details or websites, for further details, are given in each instance. Gedling Borough is an amalgamation of 17 villages and small towns, which form an area stretching from the suburbs of Nottingham to tranquil rural settings which have retained their country charm. The heritage of the borough includes people and places that changed the world, including Newstead Abbey, home of the poet Lord Byron, Papplewick Pumping Station, a nationally renowned Victorian attraction; the birthplace in Calverton of William Lee, the “father” of mechanised knitting and lace making; The birthplace of Lord Ralph Cromwell (1393-1456; Treasurer of England, who built Tattersall Castle) and of Thomas Hawksley, who designed and built Britain’s first domestic water supply system which was under constant pressure, preventing the deaths of millions of people around the world. Some of the earliest Luddite and Chartist skirmishes took place within the borough and the legend of St. Swithun originated in Woodborough! Coal mining became prominent in the borough and consequently left significant changes to the landscape, which was once part of the Ancient Sherwood Forest.

  • Addendum to the Broxtowe Borough, Gedling Borough and Nottingham
Broxtowe Borough, Gedling Borough and Nottingham City Sustainability Appraisal Report of the Aligned Core Strategies Publication Version Addendum May 2013 This page is intentionally blank Sustainability Appraisal Report on Publication Version Document (June 2012) Addendum February 2013 Introduction 1. This report is an addendum to the Greater Nottingham (Broxtowe Borough, Gedling Borough and Nottingham City) Sustainability Appraisal Publication Version June 2012 of the Aligned Core Strategies (ACS). 2. The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (2004) requires Local Planning Authorities to carry out a Sustainability Appraisal of the proposals in development plan documents and to prepare a report of the findings of that appraisal. Through the SA process, the local planning authority must assess the social, economic and environmental impacts arising from the proposals within the development plan document. The Core Strategies are development plan documents and therefore have been subject to SA at each of the key stages in their preparation. 3. The Councils published a SA Report alongside the Core Strategies in June 2012. 4. The aim of this stage of the Sustainability Appraisal (SA) process is to determine whether there are likely to be any significant sustainability effects arising from the proposed amendments to the Greater Nottingham Broxtowe Borough, Gedling Borough and Nottingham City Aligned Core Strategies Publication Version June 2012 (hereafter referred to as the Core Strategies). 5. This report therefore presents the results of the appraisal of the proposed changes to the Core Strategies, including the full appraisal of a new policy (Policy A: Presumption in Favour of Sustainable Development). The report also provides a summary of comments received at the publication stage of the ACS to the SA and officer responses to those comments, plus commentary on updates to baseline data and characteristics.

Pool title or description Nottinghamshire County Pool – all local authorities in Nottinghamshire (excluding Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Fire Authority and Nottinghamshire Police Authority) 2. Lead Contact for pool; Paul Simpson Director of Finance & Procurement Nottinghamshire County Council County Hall West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7QP 01159 773441 [email protected] 3. Local authorities included in pool: Nottinghamshire County Council, Ashfield District Council, Mansfield District Council, Gedling Borough Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Newark & Sherwood District Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council. 4. Counties and / or Local Enterprise Partnership(s) pool covers: The pooling area covers Nottinghamshire County, being the two-tier area comprising the County Council and the District Councils of Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark & Sherwood and Rushcliffe. At this time, the pool excludes Nottingham City Council and the Nottinghamshire Police and Fire authorities. The pooling area reflects longstanding relationships and service integration between the County and District levels and in part, relationships with the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). 5. What is the aim / rationale for the pool? Please briefly describe: As referenced above, the pool builds on the already strong and well-established service relationships, with the overall aim of growing the local economy. Specifically, opportunities will be exploited to enhance the pool through links to wider funding sources such as the D2N2 LEP’s Growing Places Funding and potentially, European Funding where that exists. This will allow the partners to prioritise activity that increases the competitiveness of the area and stimulates private sector economic growth. It will also allow for the planning of economic growth across the functional economic area covered by the pool rather than being constricted by local authority administrative boundaries.
