Staying warm can often mean staying healthy, and in Ohio that's not always an easy task! Here are some tips to help you "weather the Ohio weather.": *Dress in layers - several light, preferably cotton, layers will help to hold in your body heat much better than one large, bulky coat. Plus, you can remove the fa yers as you warm up inside. *Keep moving - if you find yourself outside in the dipping temperatures for an extended period of time. be sure to move your arms and legs often to keep your blood flowing! Rubbing your arms. legs and hands can help you to stay warm. Try not to stay in one position for a long time. *Carbon Monoxide can kill - never leave your car running in an enclosed garage, even if the door is up. If you are trapped in your car in a winter storm, be sure to keep the exhaust pipe free of snow and ice. The gas can become trapped inside your car, even in the outdoors! *Winterize your car, especially before travelling longer distances - have a qualified mechanic inspect your vehicle before making a long journey in winter weather. Areas such as the brakes, exhaust system, heater and defrost system should be inspected and approved. *Stock your car - carry with you essential items such as water, matches, candles, blankets and a "trouble" sign in case you find yourself off the road, out of gas, or in trouble. *Watch for signs of Frostbite and Hypothermia - signs of frostbite include a loss feeling and a pale or white appearance in earlobes. fingers, toes or other extremities. Hypothermia is characterized by uncontrollable shivering, slow speech, memory lapses, drowsiness, frequent stumbling and exhaustion. *Know how to help someone with frostbit of hypothermia - never give someone a caffeinated beverage (like cola, coffee or tea) who is exhibiting the signs of frostbite or hypothermia. Caffeine, a stimulant, increases the heart rate and hastens the effects cold has on the body. Instead, begin warming the person by putting him/her into dry clothing and wrapping a blanket around him/her. Seek medical attention as soon as possible. Warm the trunk of the body first, with arms and legs last, as stimulation in the limbs can drive cold blood toward the heart causing heart failure. Whether a snow lover or snow grinch, with these tips. we can all weather the Ohio weather, whether we like it or not! Enjoy your winter quarter! .

Professor receives Fulbright Scholarship Duane Roller, professor of classics, The Ohio State Univer sity at Lima has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant to lecture in India this winter. Dr. Roller will be attached to several universities in Calcutta and will be lecturing on a wide range of material, most of which is connected with the issue of the classical world and India. Dr. Roller has had a long standing interest in the eastern fringes of the Greco Roman world, an area that has been little studied. Established in 1946 under congressional legislation intro duced by former Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program is designed "to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries." Under the Fulbright Program, some 5,000 grants are awarded each year to American students, teachers and scholars to study, teach, and conduct research around the world, and to foreign nationals to engage in similar activities in the United States. Indi viduals are selected on the basis of academic and professional qualifications, plus their ability and willingness to share ideas and experiences with people of diverse cultures. Invitation to join the Lima Civic Chorus Richard L. Mallonee, assistant professor of music at OSU Lima, has been selected as the interim choral director of the Lima Civic Chorus. The chorus is a very energetic and musically talented group of adult singers from several surrounding counties in northwest Ohio. This outstanding group has a long choral history here in Lima and from time to time performs with the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
