Basically, it was an association - a coming together of the elite class of society - the creme de la creme of their times. About Us The "Club" is an association/organization, which has different forms in all civilizations, and although the British claim to have introduced it in our subcontinent, it was already here are the Indianized version - "Mehfil". Basically, it was an association - a coming together of the elite class of society - the creme de la creme of their times. And, one such major club of our beloved city Lucknow in this class is our Oudh Gymkhana Club. Gymkhana is actually a mere derivation of "Ghendkhana" where damsels used to play ball game with huge marigold flowers popularly called "Ghenda" (Merigold Flower).The club was basically meant for tennis player & its purpose was to promote sports. Initially only tennis players were given membership. It had 16 tennis courts, which would also fall short sometimes. The club hosted a lot of tennis matches and hosted major tennis events like National & International level champion-ships and Davis Cup. Many of the renowned tennis players like Elee Bob, Tilden, D.N. Capoor, Ghaus Mohammed, Ramanathan Krishnan, Amritraj Brothers & Leander Paes have sweated it out on the courts of this club. Later, Table Tennis & Billiards were also introduced. The club was run strictly according to rules & regulations. Though the members were sportsman the club hosted other social activities also like ball dances etc. The club had a varied menu with varieties of vegetarian dishes to non-vegetarian dishes. Khelo India has the following twelve verticals: Under the vertical Annual Sports Competitions, the 1st Khelo India Games were organized in 2018. The 2nd edition was held in 2019 which saw participation of athletes from across India in U-17 & U-21 age categories. The 3rd Khelo India Youth Games were organized in Guwahati from 10th January – 22nd January 2020. This year, the University Games have been planned to be held separately at Bhubaneswar in association with the Govt. of Odisha, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and KIIT University from 22nd Feb to 1st Mar 2020. These games will be called “Khelo India University Games, Odisha 2020”. Concept Khelo India University Games (KIUG – 2020) will be organized in Under-25 age group (Men & Women). Syed Fazaluddin and Sahiba Chadha emerge the champions -1993 Syed Fazaluddin had been making the waves, but it was the Shriram Open that helped him establish his tennis career. The elder son of Dronacharya awardee football coach Syed Naeemuddin had failed to draw the attention of Ramanathan Krishnan and Sumant Mishra during the trials to select trainees for the AITA Academy in the Capital. He had lost to Lavnish Chatrath in the national junior championship final on grass in Lucknow. It was a remarkable performance by the energetic Fazal as he came through the qualifying rounds and beat a strong field that had quality players like K. G. Ramesh, S. Narendra Nath, Anand Sukumar, Manoj Kumar and Nitin Kirtane apart from several talented youngsters. A stint with coach Akhtar Ali had helped Fazal sharpen his game after he had been kept out of the fray in the Limca junior tournament because of examinations. He had to overcome a back injury that had stopped him from picking up a tennis racquet for two months earlier. In beating Vasudeva Reddy, a trainee of the AITA Academy, 6-0 in the second and final set, Fazal emphasised his immense potential. It was not a surprise that in later years, he went on to represent the country in Davis Cup. In a thriller of a final, Fazal held his nerves when it mattered to emerge a worthy winner. Sahiba Chadha, the only girl to have had training at the BAT Centre in Chennai, a stable that had tuned players like Leander Paes, Asif Ismail, Gaurav Natekar and Rohit Rajpal, played hard enough to win the women’s title.
