2016 member engagement guide 5 Welcome to The Golf Community for Women! When I talk to people in "golf", the compliment I always hear is “your organization is doing so well. Thank you for growing the game of golf for women and making a difference.” My reply is a polite thank you and then I say I am so proud of our volunteer leaders and members who truly make it happen in communities all across the U.S. and beyond. Yes, we are respected nationally for being at the forefront of welcoming women to the game of golf. What started as a quest to find a solution to build confi- dence and competencies to level the playing field in business through the game of golf with one event and 28 attendees is now an association hosting thousands and thousands of annual golf events, national championships, opportunities for women to tee it up for success across an inter- national footprint and make friendships that last a lifetime – and have a lot of fun along the way. This is the 25-year journey of the Executive Women’s Golf Association. We have so much to celebrate. Each day, collectively, we deliver on EWGA’s vision of enriching women’s lives through the game of golf. We are a respected women’s golf asso- ciation. Overall, EWGA members contribute $63.3M annually to the U.S. golf economy in golf fees, instruction, equipment, merchandise, food and beverage and golf-related travel. Locally, we are connected to communities in 108 markets in the U.S; are in three countries including Bermuda, Italy and five Chapters in Canada; and we encourage, invite and welcome thousands of women to get in the game every year. Each of you joined EWGA for your own specific reasons. When you think about it, EWGA, through its expansive volunteer network of Chapter leaders and volunteer committees, organizes and implements fun golf experiences for a broad range of interests and skill sets. Whether you are seeking golf travel experiences on your bucket list, weekly golf play, competitive golf or you are a new golfer or intermediate or a championship caliber player, there is something for you. As CEO of this vibrant and diverse association, I am so proud of EWGA and how it has influenced and shaped how women are welcomed into the game. At our core, we believe valuing and celebrating diversity strengthens and empowers all of us. Our commitment is to make you a credible, confident and respected golfer. YOU are the EWGA. It was once said, “What you do makes a difference, and what you have to decide is what kind of difference you want to make.” You can help EWGA make a differ- ence in more women’s lives. Share “us” and invite others to be part of this golf community for women, too! It takes all of us, together, to spread the passion and EWGA’s story. On behalf of the EWGA Board of Directors and the EWGA Staff, thank you for being part of the EWGA Golf Community for Women. Please take advantage of the information in this Member Engagement Guide. It’s a resource to help you navigate all the benefits and opportunities that make this such a great association. Here’s to the next 25 years!

Pam Swensen CEO

6 executive women’s golf association Happy 25th Anniversary EWGA! It's a milestone year - 25 years of bringing women together on and off the course. Our association has touched the lives of so many. More than 100,000 women have been members throughout the years and untold thousands of others have benefited from the charitable activities of our members, EWGA Chapters and the EWGA Foundation. Whether you are new to EWGA or have been a member since the early days, be proud of the impact we have made over the past 25 years to enrich the lives of women through the game of golf. Here is how it all started: On a warm July afternoon in 1991, a group of 28 women gathered at the Emerald Dunes Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida to learn to play golf. The women were from many professions and most were interested in using golf for business. They saw their male counterparts in the office taking clients to the golf course and playing in company and charity outings. They wanted to play, too. Yet what happened during those golf lessons led to so much more. Everyone had so much fun that they asked Nancy Oliver, the golf marketing executive who organized the clinic, to put together more events so they could keep playing together. And that was the beginning of what we know today as the EWGA. Nancy started a for-profit business called the Executive Women’s Golf League (EWGL). Through word of mouth, publicity and the support of hundreds of golf professionals and volunteer leaders, membership and Chapters grew at an explosive rate. There were nearly 90 Chapters by 1995 and the first National Championship was launched. In 1996, the Executive Women’s Golf Association was incor- porated and the first Board of Directors comprised of EWGA members was formed. The organization received 501c (6) tax exempt status in 1997.

2016 member engagement guide 7 In 2001, EWGA became member-owned following a purchase agreement from Nancy Oliver, dba Business Links, giving the Board of Directors control of the organization’s governance. This debt payment was completed in June of 2012. Through the years, EWGA has been recognized for its many contributions to women and golf. Accolades include an Honor Award from the National Association of Girls & Women in Sports (NAGWS), the first LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Champion Award, the Graffis Award from the National Golf Foundation, the Trainer Award from the LPGA Futures Tour, several ING Industry Honors Awards from the International Network of Golf and a national DANDI Award finalist in the sports category for diversity and inclusion. It has been an amazing 25 years. Today we have 108 Chapters in major markets throughout the United States and international Chapters in Bermuda, Canada and Italy. In the past 20 years, the EWGA Championship has become the world's largest amateur women's golf competition. Now in its sixth year, the match-play EWGA Cup draws sold-out fields and spirited team play. Every month from May through August, there are more than 2000 EWGA events providing playing opportunities for women coast to coast. Yes, we can be proud of our first 25 years. Together, we can continue to welcome more women into golf and the EWGA for decades to come.

Golf is so much more than just a game. It is a significant industry, a major contributor to the American economy and to the economic vitality of individual states.

ECONOMIC: Golf contributes $68.8 billion and 2 million jobs with direct ties to the American economy. One in 75 jobs in the United States is in the golf industry.

CHARITABLE: Golf raises more money for charity than all other sports combined. Annually, the game generates $3.9 billion for philanthropic causes, almost all of which are unrelated to the golf industry.

ENVIRONMENTAL: Golf courses are a responsible use of green space, providing wildlife habitat, a filter for runoff, and a cooling effect on developed areas.

HEALTH & WELLNESS: Golf is an excellent source of exercise. Playing 18 holes of golf roughly burns 2,000 calories when walking and 1,300 when riding in a cart.

A GAME FOR ALL: Nine out of 10 golfers play at public-access facilities, 76 percent of golf is played at public courses, and the median cost of a round is just $37.

The EWGA Foundation is another opportunity for volunteer involvement through its various committees and special projects, as well as the EWGA Foundation Board. If you would like to volunteer for the EWGA Foundation, send your contact information and specific area of interest to [email protected]. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Programs Supported by the EWGA Foundation The Women On Par® Scholarship helps women 30 years of age and older who are inter- ested in beginning or completing their undergraduate college education to get ‘on par’ with their peers. Started in 2008 and based on need, the Women on Par® Scholarship program has awarded 12 scholarships to deserving women to further their education and realize their dreams. Each year applications are accepted from January 1st through April 15 with the Foundation Scholarship Committee awarding two scholarships in June. Applicants are not required to be EWGA members, but must comply with the eligibility criteria. See ewgafoundation.com to learn more.

Your support for the EWGA Foundation is an ideal way to give back and “play it forward” to help more women and future generations. Contributions in memory or to honor someone special will be recognized on the EWGA Foundation website. This year, and every year, your gift makes an impact. Your support can be transfor- mational when you make a difference in someone’s life. Tax Deductible Donation – Choose a donation to the General Fund or designate a specific initiative such as the Women on Par® Scholarship Program or LPGA*USGA Girls Golf. You can donate online, download the EWGA Foundation donation form or e-mail [email protected] Amazon Smile Program – Visit AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com) and designate the Executive Women’s Golf Association Foundation as the charitable organization to receive donations from eligible the ewga foundation purchases. They will remember your selection. Then each time you shop Amazon, simply sign in at smile.amazon.com and every eligible purchase you make will result in a 0.5% donation to the EWGA Foundation. Corporate Matching Gift Program – Does your employer have a matching gift program to match charitable contributions made by their employees? These contributions are often matched dollar for dollar, which doubles the power of your charitable dona- tion. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, check with your human resources/payroll department. Grant Support - We welcome the opportunity to partner with other Foundations or Corporations interested in providing grants to support the advancement of women through golf. If you have contacts at any of these organizations, please email [email protected]. To learn more about the EWGA Foundation and how to contribute see ewgafoundation.com or email us at [email protected]. On-line Auctions - Throughout the year, the EWGA Foundation holds on-line auctions offering a wide range of golf gear, merchandise and stay and play travel packages to raise funds for its work. Watch your email for these events around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Grads and Dads, Summer Sizzler, End of Summer and Cyber Monday.
