When I talk to people in "golf", the compliment I always hear is “your organization is doing so well. Thank you for growing the game of golf for women and making a difference.” My reply is a polite thank you and then I say I am so proud of our volunteer leaders and members who truly make it happen in communities all across the U.S. and beyond. Yes, we are respected nationally for being at the forefront of welcoming women to the game of golf. What started as a quest to find a solution to build confi- dence and competencies to level the playing field in business through the game of golf with one event and 28 attendees is now an association hosting thousands and thousands of annual golf events, national championships, opportunities for women to tee it up for success across an inter- national footprint and make friendships that last a lifetime – and have a lot of fun along the way. This is the 25-year journey of the Executive Women’s Golf Association. We have so much to celebrate. Each day, collectively, we deliver on EWGA’s vision of enriching women’s lives through the game of golf. We are a respected women’s golf asso- ciation. Overall, EWGA members contribute $63.3M annually to the U.S. golf economy in golf fees, instruction, equipment, merchandise, food and beverage and golf-related travel. Locally, we are connected to communities in 108 markets in the U.S; are in three countries including Bermuda, Italy and five Chapters in Canada; and we encourage, invite and welcome thousands of women to get in the game every year. Each of you joined EWGA for your own specific reasons. When you think about it, EWGA, through its expansive volunteer network of Chapter leaders and volunteer committees, organizes and implements fun golf experiences for a broad range of interests and skill sets. Whether you are seeking golf travel experiences on your bucket list, weekly golf play, competitive golf or you are a new golfer or intermediate or a championship caliber player, there is something for you. As CEO of this vibrant and diverse association, I am so proud of EWGA and how it has influenced and shaped how women are welcomed into the game. At our core, we believe valuing and celebrating diversity strengthens and empowers all of us. Our commitment is to make you a credible, confident and respected golfer. YOU are the EWGA. It was once said, “What you do makes a difference, and what you have to decide is what kind of difference you want to make.” You can help EWGA make a differ- ence in more women’s lives. Share “us” and invite others to be part of this golf community for women, too! It takes all of us, together, to spread the passion and EWGA’s story. On behalf of the EWGA Board of Directors and the EWGA Staff, thank you for being part of the EWGA Golf Community for Women. Please take advantage of the information in this Member Engagement Guide. It’s a resource to help you navigate all the benefits and opportunities that make this such a great association. Here’s to the next 25 years! Pam Swensen CEO 6 executive women’s golf association Happy 25th Anniversary EWGA! It's a milestone year - 25 years of bringing women together on and off the course. Our association has touched the lives of so many. More than 100,000 women have been members throughout the years and untold thousands of others have benefited from the charitable activities of our members, EWGA Chapters and the EWGA Foundation. Whether you are new to EWGA or have been a member since the early days, be proud of the impact we have made over the past 25 years to enrich the lives of women through the game of golf. Here is how it all started: On a warm July afternoon in 1991, a group of 28 women gathered at the Emerald Dunes Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida to learn to play golf. The women were from many professions and most were interested in using golf for business. They saw their male counterparts in the office taking clients to the golf course and playing in company and charity outings. They wanted to play, too. Yet what happened during those golf lessons led to so much more. Everyone had so much fun that they asked Nancy Oliver, the golf marketing executive who organized the clinic, to put together more events so they could keep playing together. And that was the beginning of what we know today as the EWGA. Nancy started a for-profit business called the Executive Women’s Golf League (EWGL). Through word of mouth, publicity and the support of hundreds of golf professionals and volunteer leaders, membership and Chapters grew at an explosive rate. There were nearly 90 Chapters by 1995 and the first National Championship was launched. In 1996, the Executive Women’s Golf Association was incor- porated and the first Board of Directors comprised of EWGA members was formed. The organization received 501c (6) tax exempt status in 1997. 2016 member engagement guide 7 In 2001, EWGA became member-owned following a purchase agreement from Nancy Oliver, dba Business Links, giving the Board of Directors control of the organization’s governance. This debt payment was completed in June of 2012. Through the years, EWGA has been recognized for its many contributions to women and golf. Accolades include an Honor Award from the National Association of Girls & Women in Sports (NAGWS), the first LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Champion Award, the Graffis Award from the National Golf Foundation, the Trainer Award from the LPGA Futures Tour, several ING Industry Honors Awards from the International Network of Golf and a national DANDI Award finalist in the sports category for diversity and inclusion. It has been an amazing 25 years. Today we have 108 Chapters in major markets throughout the United States and international Chapters in Bermuda, Canada and Italy. In the past 20 years, the EWGA Championship has become the world's largest amateur women's golf competition. Now in its sixth year, the match-play EWGA Cup draws sold-out fields and spirited team play. Every month from May through August, there are more than 2000 EWGA events providing playing opportunities for women coast to coast. Yes, we can be proud of our first 25 years. Together, we can continue to welcome more women into golf and the EWGA for decades to come. 8 executive women’s golf association EWGA is Your Association The EWGA, also known as the Executive Women’s Golf Association, serves an interna- tional membership.
