Pecherska Lavra (Lower Left) ­ The Pecherska Lavra is a monastary and church in Kiev that dates back to 1015 AD. Red Flowers (Upper Right) ­ A bouquet of of red flowers is pictured. Wedding Rings (Lower Right) ­ Two wedding rings are shown against a blue background with blue flowers. Sea Launch Leonid Kadeniuk Sea Launch is a spacecraft launch Leonid Kadeniuk is the only astronaut service that uses a mobile sea platform of independent Ukraine. The upper­ left shows the TE1, a design based on the Alco RSD­1 diesel locomotive made in the US. The up­ per­right stamp shows the TE2 which was 40 tons lighter and 7 meters shorter than the Te1, but just as powerful. The lower­left stamp shows the TE3, a locomotive with 4,000 hp total capcity. This was the first diesel locomotive mass pro­ duced to replace steam locomotives. The lower­ right stamp shows the TE7, a diesel locomotive designed to pull passen­ ger cars. Pereiaslav­Khmelnytskyi Great White Pelican The city of Pereiaslav­Khmelnytskyi was men­ tioned for the first time in the text of the Rus' treaty with the Byzantine Empire. Vladimir I built a large fortress here in 992 to protect the south­ ern limits of Kievan Rus' from raids of nomads. This stamp commemorates it 1100th an­ niversary. A social and cooperative bird, the great white pelican fishes in the early morning, spending the remainder of the day preening and bathing. Groups of birds bathe in shallow water, ducking their heads and bodies beneath the surface and flapping their wings. U K R A I N E 2007 Commemorative Stamps Sputnik ­ 50th Anniversary Sputnik was the first artifi­ cial Earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957. This souvenir sheet por­ trays the satellite along with Serhyi Korolov (1907­ 1966) and Valyntyn Hlushko (1908­1989). Serhyi Korolov was the Sputnik's chief designer. Valyntyn Hlushko was the chief designer of the booster rocket that put Sputnik in orbit. Klitschko INTRODUCTORY SPEECH BY THE MAYOR OF KYIV 3 Dear friends! The year 2020 has been a year of tests of strength for us. The coronavirus pandemic has changed the lives of Kyiv residents, Ukrainians, nations and people all over the world. It has been a year of tough decisions for the capital’s authorities and of superhuman effort for our doctors in the fight for the lives and health of Kyiv residents. In 2020, Kyiv learnt to live under severe quarantine for the first time in several decades. And I am sincerely grateful to the people of Kyiv for understanding the need for such measures and complying with anti-epidemic requirements. Unfortunately, Kyiv confronted the pandemic virtually on its own. The capital’s public health institutions were provided with everything necessary for both individual protection of medical personnel and treatment of patients at the municipal expense. We have also introduced a municipal allowance for medics and increased salaries for social workers whose workload increased during the quarantine. In total, 386 million UAH have been allocated from the city budget for the fight against coronavirus in 2020. And more than 1 billion UAH for additional payments to our healthcare staff.
